Surprisingly full of twists! Yang and Pham are a stellar team because everything about this came together nicely.
3.5 stars rounded up. YA graphic novel/romance with ties to Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese cultures. Good mix of humor, poignancy, and surprises. Moral of the story: always go for the grumpy boy with baggage who ignores you, not the boy who is friendly, flirtatious, and fickle.
This is just a breath of fresh air wow. This book GOSH so beautifully thought with everything about Val's life, i don't know how to explain the feeling of relatability i felt with her. The little fantasy element it had was just so unique, the romance was very believable that i felt for this characters a warmth i've NEVER felt before. The story has the best pacing i've experienced with any graphic novel, i've never felt things were going too fast, this was just simply perfect. The art style WOW there's no words on how beautiful it is. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT ITS PERFECT, NEW FAVORITE.
Absolutely captivating! A fantastic coming of age story about finding love both romantically and platonically as Valentina has a year to find what love is. Is her family always cursed with heart-break? Is it better to just be numb then to feel it all crashing down?
Great story, great characters, and all round great message about connection and making that effort.
A perfect read for a sad, sick Christmas or any time! Yang remains the GOAT with an incredible reminder to leave your heart open for love even through the pain.
