I'm actually surprised I liked this as much as I did. I haven't been the hugest fan of hazelwood considering the love hypothesis was just ok for me but as I make my way through her work, gotta give credit where it's due...I personally think this was rlly cute! I laughed out loud multiple times & enjoyed myself! In the same vein, someone tell this lady to stop writing smut. It's just bad.
3.5 stars.
Nice introduction to this author. I think that I might pick some of her other works when they seem intriguing to me.
Listen, I would not have made it past “I love twilight more than I love cheese” 20 pages in if it weren't for this being the book club book. Elsie was really giving door mat the first half of this book. And her quirkiness was cringy instead of endearing. But she is mirrorball No 1 and that I can relate to. Ali also has never spoken with a t1 diabetic and that made me laugh. Jack is too perfect tbh but seeing Elsie through his eyes is what made me finally start to like her. And while I had many qualms with this book I am giving it 4 stars (which was not on my 2024 bingo card, esp because I would have thought this would be a 2 for me) and would rec to people looking for a mind candy, low stakes happy pay off read.
Io e Leox <3
Really 4 1/2.
First the good. The relationship, i mean the mmc was a bit too much at times, a little scary to be honest but it somehow worked for this fictional story. The mfc, she was obviously traumatized and it was also too much at times, seemed to heal quite instantly, but again, it worked in this wacky world. It was cute. I had the feels, i liked the stem rep and world and the writting although at times too quirky it worked.
Now the sorta bad. I took the half off for lagging a bit in the middle and unnecessary woke references that felt completely out of place (political preferences, planned parenthood...)
can't explain why this ISNT 5 stars because it honestly was amazing and i wouldn't change anything about it. 4.5!!
⭐️ 3.35/5
(i'm redoing my old ratings bc they need help)
okay! i probably shouldn't be reading romance after going through a heartbreak - but this is a GOOD read that i would recommend.
love the STEM elements, love all the female characters (although some felt a bit bare bones or like they were weirdly missing something - mainly cece) - don't know how I feel about elsie's obsession with cheese.
as far as book boyfriends go, jack smith-turner is a 10/10. a masculine, authoritative, caring, respectful & intelligent man.
i struggled to get through some of this towards the end - but then it really picked up and all the elements came together and it made sense and amplified the love story.
i didn't demolish this like i would a thriller, i just like thrillers better. this didn't have enough moments to make it compete with thrillers so that's why it's not a whole 4/5.
Czy można wydawać ciągle ten sam fanfik Reylo? Można, wystarczy go lekko przeredagować i pozmieniać szczegóły.
Just after reading that the ML wrote an article starting a war between theoretical and experimental physicists, I already know that in the end, he's going to write an apology of some sort because it's just too much of a letdown for him to not.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Did I have to google every scientific term used in this book? No
Was it necessary to put all those scientific terms? Yes, tired physicists who want to take a breather by reading a book need it.
Did we need all the Twilight references? Maybe, I was laughing all the times it was mentioned.
Do you like Twilight because it's good or do you like it because it's so bad it makes you feel good?
This is probably my favorite Ali Hazelwood yet. She's really finding her niche in this genre now.
I was genuinely really loving this book so so so much and then it kind of just ended and I was like “oh ok I guess we're done”.
One thing about Ali Hazelwood's MMC, they're deservingly swoon-worthy. I'm just glad that the FMC is not the reincarnation of the other 2 FMCs from her books.
Ali Hazelwood really knows how to make a former academic feel validated, if anything else. Jack and Elsie were both characters that I wasn't sure how to feel about. I don't think I actually like Elsie, at the end of the day, though I can completely understand and empathize with her struggles with adjuncting and desire to find something better. The conflict with her mentor seemed too easily solved. Jack was enigmatic and never quite completely materialized for me. Overall, I enjoyed myself. If Goodreads allowed half-stars I'd give it a 3.5. Hazelwood's strengths remain the same, compared to The Love Hypothesis. The story is full of typical romance tropes that, if you love them, make the story super satisfying. And if you don't, well... at least you know what you're getting. She doesn't reinvent the wheel, but she does give you a really high-quality tire, at least.
As a STEM girly this book was FOR me. It checked every box. I laughed, I cried, I cursed the old boys club.
I think this one is more approachable for those that haven't lived the ‘woman in a male dominated field” life, particularly those people pleasers out there.
Elsie y Jack me parecen adorables.
