Life As We Knew It

I enjoyed this book mostly because the author did an incredible job of capturing what truly would happen under these circumstances. No crazy wars, or far-fetched tales. Just the story of survival and family. I really enjoyed this book. The rest of the series wasn't as good but this first novel is worth the read.

I first read this book about 1o years ago and remember enjoying it. For the most part, it has withstood the test of time. It's a Young Adult book and is a little simplistic in parts as it's told from the point of view of Miranda, a young girl. I do like the post apocalyptic storyline, however, and although the characters could be fleshed out a little more, I still found it an enjoyable read.

This book is what started my love for “soft dystopian” literature. Upon re-read now in my adult life, it still gave me chills thinking of living in this world where a meteor hits our moon and pushing it closer to earth causing cataclysmic events. Now in 2021 we get our own natural disasters - free of a closer moon - and it's made this book all the more sadder.

Great read for our younger generation to further understand how we are at whim with our earth.

After reading all three books in this trilogy please heed my warining: Stop at this book! Don't bother reading the next two. Unless you're really religious and want all your books to turn into people finding God. Book two & three she just went into a crazy direction. I wish I hadn't read them, they ruined how great this first one was.

A well written book with an interesting concept, targeted to a younger age than I was expecting. Preteen/early teens, I think. But otherwise, it's basically Little House on the Post-Apocalyptic Prairie, very different!

While I did finish it, I found it really hard to suspend my disbelief. The science of what happened - of what drives the plot - is just way too far fetched. :/

Compelling. The main character matured and developed over the course of the book, which felt realistic, not forced.
I'll have to read the next ones.

This book makes me want to go crazy on stocking up my food storage. A good book but sometimes made me feel very down and depressed. It makes me want to be stronger and endure my current challenges with more grace as this book made me realize it can always be much worse.

Part of how I know I'm really enjoying a book is how much I annoy other people by talking about it. I don't think a day went by while I was listening to this one that I didn't make a reference to it or try to get my sister to agree to read it.

This book's attraction (part of it) is how realistic it seems. It's not hard to get worked up while reading about it and start to think, “THIS COULD HAPPEN TO US.” This has not been the case with the dystopias I have read in the past. But this...this is terrifying. I want to start building my stockpile of canned goods and batteries now.

I really did not care too much for the narrative style of the book. It's told as if it's the journal of a 16-year-old girl and I found Miranda's voice to be a bit too young and also just pretty annoying. I also felt a little cheated when I got to the end and no one had died. I had my money on Matt from the beginning.

Denne boka leste jeg ut på én dag og det var ikke uten grunn – den var utrolig virkelighetsnær og tankevekkende. Jeg tok meg selv i å passe på at jeg ikke spiste for mye, slik at jeg skulle ha igjen mat til dagene framover osv. Boka er skrevet som Mirandas dagbok og det gjør den veldig personlig, jeg kjente meg ofte igjen i karakteren. Man fikk virkelig følelsen av å være der. Mange episoder i boka var kjempetriste og jeg fikk vondt av å lese dem. Det er skummelt å tenke på at dette faktisk kan skje og at det kan være oss i samme situasjon om noen år. Anbefales virkelig! Les den nå!
En liten funfact til slutt: Mirandas bursdag er den samme som min – 20. mars. Jeg synes det er så artig med sånne småting. :-)

I remember liking this book, but I read it and [Into the Forest:] back to back and I've totally munged the plots together. I think they have quite a few similarities.

Miranda is going about her normal day-to-day. Homework, school, life. There is buzz in the air about an asteroid colliding with the moon. Shouldn't be a big deal other than a pretty light show. Loads of asteroids have crashed into the moon; that's why it has craters.

Except it is a big deal. The asteroid knocks the moon off-kilter. This changes everything.

I read this book in one sitting. It was so scary because it's something that actually could happen. At least it seemed so in the book. Excellent read.
