3.5 stars. I appreciated some of the ambience and themes that made me remember one of my favorite horror movies, The Ring. This book isn't what I was expecting but I'm glad for that. It kept my attention. It wasn't earth-shatteringly good or even noticeably well-written, but it was an interesting enough mystery. It's got pretty great reviews so, if it's on your list, I can at least say I don't regret giving it a try.
I did love this book! The atmosphere was everything I did really like the twist I just feel like one of them was a bit out there I know its fiction but it just felt a bit far fetch but its definitely not gonna take away my joy for the book! The drawings were awesome and so unique! Overall a very solid thriller would've been a 4.5 if it wasnt for that grip
The first 2/3 of this book are interesting well written and mysterious. The last part goes off the rails. I mean seriously the last part made the book go from a 3.8 probably rounded up to 4 to a 2. That is because of the transphobic thing. I'm not going to deny it.
VERY rarely does a thriller book actually get me with the twist, but this one sure as hell did. I couldn't put this book down.

that twist was bad. dear god. this won in the horror category in 2022? where was the horror?
I would say 3.5! It isn't a book I'd typically spring for but I was entertained and eager to see how it would end.
4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was gifted this book from my friend Kelly and I couldn't be more thankful! I loved this authors writing and it hooked me in from the very beginning. The pictures were very creepy especially in the start of the book when it wasn't Teddy's best work. I was reading it at like 1am and scared myself just from the pictures lmao.
I was so invested in the mystery that was going on. I did wish it went in a slightly different direction in the end. The ending did kind of feel like it went off the rails a bit which is why I knocked off a star. But still very much enjoyed.
Wow, okay. Trying to wrap my head around the fact this won best horror when the writing wasn't particularly strong and the characters were frustratingly one dimensional and very cliché, and that twist..... don't get me started on that twist and ending. Whatever.
Fairly solid start with a spooky setup. But the inconsistencies in decision making and the general silliness of the second half (everything past the plot twist was hilarious) really dropped the score for me.
This is all so jumbled, a lot of things being thrown out every corner, you won't have time to duck. There were so many unnecessary things happening all at the same time, and what is this genre even? It was all so confusing I just rolled my eyes and got it done. THE PICTURES WEREN'T EVEN HIDDEN!!!
The first quarter of this book was good, which always seems to be a red flag for me in a book. Promises like these seem to never pan out. Eventually you start to see the author's political and religious views start to bleed into the book.
I very rarely rate books one star, but when an author shows racist and anti-atheist characters prevailing it's not even about the book anymore. This book and author pissed me off.
The only thing worth redeeming is the narrator for the audiobook, who is kickass and a favorite of mine.

devoured this in a day and a half. it was very interesting and i love the atmosphere, had no clue where the book is going so the ending surprised me. this took me out of a month long slump so it deserves the 4 star rating
My only complaint is that this book just kind of happens to you. There isn't enough information until the very end to guess what is going on (unless I just completely missed something). It was otherwise very attention grabbing and I didn't want to put this book down.
This book is so easy to read. It kept me flipping through the pages.
Mallory Quinn has had a rough go of it. Fresh from a halfway house she finds a job as a babysitter/nanny for the summer for the Maxwells. She gets to live on the property in the family's small but cute cottage as well as spend time with their son, Teddy, who she immediately takes to. She loves it! It doesn't take long for things to start taking a dark turn. Teddy loves to draw but as each day passes Teddy starts to draw more and more sinister things that are definitely not drawings that a novice could do, let alone a 5 year old. Soon Mallory believes a ghost is using Teddy to communicate and she is determined to solve the murder mystery.
I very much enjoyed this book. There's a bit of unreliable narrator which keeps you on edge of wondering what exactly is going on which then keeps you turning the pages. All of the characters are so well done and the twist at the end had me shocked. The artwork that is included in the book adds the perfect touch. If you can get the physical book I highly recommend as it adds so much to the story because the details of the drawings are wonderful on page.
Loved it! Probably the best mystery/ thriller I've read all year. The pictures were a creepy bonus.
Unpopular opinion alert. Another “horror” I had high hopes for due to all the hype surrounding it. This is not horror. Yes there is a ghost story but this is more supernatural suspense/mystery than anything else. So that right there was a huge disappointment.
Hidden Pictures starts off AMAZING. There was Mallory, who I loved and was rooting for. There was the beginning of what could be a haunting, so potential for scary. On top of that a mystery surrounding the cottage that Mallory lived in. I was ALL IN...until about 85-ish% through...
Then the author completely lost me. At this point, we get smacked in the face with an entirely different aspect of where this looked to be going. Let's just say eyes rolled and sighs ensued. All the momentum and love for this one (despite not being a horror novel) dissipated. The ending and twists were completely unbelievable, didn't make much sense given the story that had already played out, and I was baffled. It felt rushed and almost like someone else finished this book off.
I won't say specifics so I don't spoil this for any who want to read it. I will just leave it at how disappointed I am in what could have been a 5 star read. Instead, it went from a much loved Pumpkin Spice Latte to soured milk. This isn't one I will recommend, but if you are so inclined...take a chance and see where you fall overall.
I couldn't put this book down, it consumed me for an entire day. I absolutely loved everything about this. The pictures scattered throughout were such a great addition to the story and made me feel so involved. I loved the mystery threading through, loved the babysitting aspect of it, and was shocked by that twist ending!!!!! I need this author to release another book, this is definitely my type of writing style, I absolutely loved it. I have to choose my next book carefully, it will be a challenge to find something that lives up. Phenomenal.
3.5 stars. This is a fast-paced mystery with pictures! I liked that element of the book and enjoyed reading it.
