Wow. I don't know how I was entertained for almost 600 pages, but I was! There were a few parts in the book that were a little slow for me, but I feel like it was worth it in the end. I was a little skeptical because I had read some less than positive reviews.
Holy crap, do I love Rowan or what. Yes, he was a jerk at the beginning, but gosh darn did he just warm right up. There was so much that happened too. And WTH Maeve? What is she doing? Hopefully Maas will give some kind of answer as to why shes just been holed up for 10 years.
The witches were interesting, but it took a while for me to actually become invested in their story. I am not sure that I completely understand them yet.
I still adore Chaol. What to do.... except read the next book, which is apparently over 700 pages!
This book took a different turn as the main character was sent to a new continent. It introduced interesting new characters and filled in much more of the story behind the old characters.
One of the new POV character, the witch, was not someone I immediately liked, cared about, or wanted to read about, but by the end I was invested in her story as well.
It would be hard to put into words how much I loved this book. The characters have all grown and developed so much since the first one, and I love every twist and turn! It's incredible! One of the most impressive thing about this series to me is that the author continually enters new characters, and makes them so believable and human that I love them instantly as much as I do the characters that were there from the beginning. That is so hard to do, and often series get bogged down by new characters and all you want is to return to the main ones. In this I was actually excited for every plot line (and there were many going on at once).
This book was flawless and the ending left me weeping! I can't wait to see what happens next...
To know the real value of a book you should consider the magical effect it could have on you, as is it so powerful that it's able to make you forget you're actually reading. Based on that, Heir of Fire has a real, so real value. And the fact is even more meaningful that I generally dislike the multiple POVs. Celaena keeps surprising me and everyone and we're only at the middle of the saga. This girl, this wondrous, superbadass-but-also-over endearing character is so goals in every possible way. She is inspiring as much as her environment and I think both are always linked somehow. The scenery of this book is genuinely... magical. And the way Sarah continiously plays with our heart still awe me. I need more but I also need to take some time to print this chapters in my mind, reread them maybe (surely) and appreciate again and again every single bit of it. That's the third one and it's getting bigger and bigger and I might explode soon, but I'm happy with that. Im grateful for this instant of greatness and mainly for such books to exist.
Getting better! Maybe I judged the first book too harshly. This was a pretty decent read, and I liked some of the new characters introduced (Rowan and Manon) and I liked that it didn't (entirely) end how I expected it to. Props to Maas for giving us a relationship between a guy and a girl with no romance. That's pretty rare to see anymore, and I always love it. I think it worked really well in this book and it made me like it so much more than I expected to!
I HAVE. NO WORDS.
MIND = BLOWN
SO MANY THINGS HAPPENED AND I'M STILL TRYING TO COMPREHEND IT

I LOVE. THIS BOOK.
IT IS JUST WOW.
3.5
fairly slow in the beginning
very dissatisfied with the way things are going
That was mean. Those last pages were not okay. I'm not okay.
I loved it, overall. Everything came together beautifully, and there were so many ‘Aha!' moments.
This book was amazing. It tied everything together into this ONE BIG GIGANTIC PLOT AND I LOVED EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT. I'm very disheartened at the thought of Rowan not showing up for quite a while, but, THEIR FRIENDSHIP/RELATIONSHIP WAS POSSIBLY THE BEST IN THE ENTIRE SERIES.
I hope Aedion and Dorian live through the end because they truly became close to my heart. Can't wait for the next book
This series just keeps getting better and better. Celaena was broken for a lot of this book, but Rowan is there to ground her. I loved all the background we got on Celaena's childhood. Plus the training sessions with Rowan were awesome!
I loved the alternating perspectives between Celaena and Rowan's story, Dorian and Chaol, and Manon and the witches. It let us know what was going on beyond what Celaena was experiencing. I'm not really sure what the purpose of Manon's story was/is, but I trust that it will become apparent in the next book.
Overall this book was everything I wanted and now I need the next one.
Where do I begin? First off, this series made my favorites list the instant that I met Celaena Sardothien. I have a soft spot for heroines who are flawed and aren't afraid to admit it. Women who see the unimaginable space separating them from happiness, and still don't give up the fight. Celaena has been that character for me and, despite any slight qualms I may have had with the last book, her fire was back in spades in Heir of Fire. I love Celaena. I'd follow her anywhere.
True to my word, I did. This book takes the reader on an adventure well past the confines of the last two. Out of Adarlan, and into the lands beyond. I was breathless as I traveled through old cities, met new players in this ever expanding world, and finally ended up in the land of the Fae. I'll be honest, this story does take a bit to pick up. It makes sense, since there is a lot that must be introduced and explained, and it's absolutely worth it. My view of Celaena and the people who surround her is so much more vast now. This is the first book where I actually felt completely immersed, and I loved every minute of it.
I feel it fair to note that this is a much darker book than the previous ones. While our heroine's story has always been blackened by death and loss, she's always hidden that part of herself away. Now that Celaena knows that Fae blood runs through her veins, and she's finally forced to conquer it? Things take an even darker turn. I'll admit that when Rowan was first introduced, I didn't like him. I suppose that's the point. He's a cold man, much like what Chaol was originally like. He grew on me though and, after a while, I couldn't get enough of him. Adding him into the mix, giving Celaena a male counterpart who is worthy of her time, made things so much more interesting.
I honestly had no idea that this wasn't the end of this series, and I'm torn on how I feel about that. Heir of Fire definitely brings to the table a ton of things that are new, and need to be resolved. Which is great. On the other hand, it makes the book really long. Towards the end things started to drag a little. Still, the ending does definitely leave you wanting more! So there's that. I just hope this series continues to deliver stellar reads like this one. Book three, and I'm still hooked. Now I'll just sit here quietly and wait for book four.
