** spoiler alert ** So many lives lost in this one, it seems exponential. Also, darker and action packed all the way. But I really enjoyed it and finished in awe of this amazing woman. Bow to you JK Rowling 💜
HOLY SHIT. I MEAN, HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
I can't even begin to describe my feelings for this book. This SERIES.
~speechless~
This series deserves all of the love it gets. It deserves all of the hype. It deserves everything.
This book deserves all of the things, too. Because god-damn. And that epilogue as well.
I am honestly so incredibly pumped for The Cursed Child because the five page preview I got of these kids was fantastic, and I don't think I will care about format or authors or whatever, because I just want more.
Holy. Shit.
Harry Potter is life, man.
This could not possibly be a more satisfying conclusion. I have nothing else to say. Masterful achievement.
Surprising at the right times, satisfying throughout, and epic in proportion.
No estoy llorando....aaaayyyyy que penicaaaaaaaa mas grandeeeee. Y la gente se pregunta todavía que hace grande a esta saga.
Finally, done! deep sigh of relief
Even though I do plan to eventually post my thoughts on this series on my blog - if I can ever get my thoughts totally ironed out - I want to say a few things about this book here.
It was really difficult for me to rate it, because while I did genuinely hate most of it, there were a few moments that I loved. (Like Neville and the snake.)
But, by now, I hate the character of Harry Potter so much that this book quickly turned into a struggle for me to get through.
The series ends with deus ex machina after deus ex machina. Harry didn't die, Harry is the true wielder of the Elder Wand, Harry does this and Harry does that and Harry is just so awesome it made me sick!
Also, there is such a double standard this because several of the ‘heroes' committed one or more of the ‘unforgivable curses' but nothing happened. There was never even any fallout. What, because they're the good guys, they lower themselves to the bad guys level and they still come out smelling like roses? But then, Harry doesn't actually kill Voldemort, but it's a backfire of his own wand that does him in? Talk about cheap, let's try to keep our hero pure, even though he's already sullied and no one else notices it.
Now, as far as I'm concerned, this is the end of the series. The Cursed Child is, as far as I'm concerned, a so far into the future that it isn't part of the series. That being said, I do have a slight interest in reading it.
I want to know how Harry's character has grown over the years - but more than that, I'm hoping we follow Albus and that he did wind up in Slytherin. That would actually be worth me suffering through this book for.
I love this entire series and loved this book. Very sad that it is over. Can't wait to read all of them again with my younger son.
The final book in the Harry Potter series contains Harry's final showdown with the evil Lord Voldemort. Children who grew up following this series, like myself, were waiting for this book since day one and it doesn't disappoint. Harry Potter and his friends go on a quest to find the Deathly Hallows, three artifacts that give the owner power over death. Along the way they are stopped by Voldemort's followers and by the looming thought that Voldemort is getting closer and closer to his victory. Children, teenagers, and adults will enjoy this book. It answers all the questions, ties up all the loose ends, and the action doesn't stop for one minute until it is all over. Even when you think Harry and friends are going to be able to sit down and have a nap at Xenophilius Lovegood's cottage, think again, because before they are able to catch their breath, the Death Eaters are on their tail again. This is just one example of the non-stop adventure that will be found by readers of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Finally finished the series! I am sorry to see the story end, what a fun read.
I never thought that it was gonna be so hard for me to end a book, Harry Potter is more than a character for me, I've been attached to Harry Potter since I was 10 years old, that's mostly all my puberty and part of my childhood, I never wanted to ended, and I'm still attached, and I just can't believe it. I feel kind of sad but I love these books so much and I love this world so hard and it may sounds childish but I feel this is a strong part of me and I will always be a Harry Potter's fan from heart.
Update 2020: I'm about to be 30 years old in a few days, I'm glad to find that I'm still a child and I still love these books so much <3
Executive Summary: This is a really great end to what has truly become and instant classic series. I'm a bit sad my re-visit is over, but I'm sure this won't be the last time I revisit this series.Jim Audio Book: I really enjoy Jim Dale. I imagine whatever I listen to in the near future will have an incredibly tough time measuring up.Stephen Fry Audio Book: I really enjoy Stephen Fry as well. Now that I've done the series with both, I still can't decide. If I had to pick, I think Dale is better for the earlier lighter books and Fry is better for the later darker ones, but you really can't go wrong either way.Full Review I originally gave this book a 5, but dropped it to a 4. On this re-read I up-rated [b:Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 5 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter, #3) J.K. Rowling https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1499277281s/5.jpg 2402163] because it was better than I remember. This book didn't quite hold up. It's a high 4 though.Early on I was definite I wanted to drop it 4, but as I got closer to the end I was less sure. I'm still a little iffy on it. This is really a story of two halves. The first half is slow sometimes to the point of being tedious.I'm not sure if it was intentional or not. I certainly felt as frustrated as the characters at their lack of progress. The second half of the book is truly excellent. The first part is what spoils a 5 star for me though. I'm trying to be a bit more frugal with what I give 5 stars to, to give that rating a bit more meaning. Cover to Cover this book just wasn't as enjoyable to me as [b:Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 5 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter, #3) J.K. Rowling https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1499277281s/5.jpg 2402163] or [b:Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 6 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) J.K. Rowling https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1361482611s/6.jpg 3046572].That said, I love this book and I for one am happy with the ending. I have this perception that many(some?) people were upset at the epilogue. I've heard complaints that Ms. Rowling left nothing to the imagination. In some books that would bother me. For Harry Potter, it does not. I think if I had to imagine what would happen next, the Epilogue is exactly what I'd have wanted.
Probably my least favorite of the series. So much action and I just couldn't get into the Snape story. Still a good wrap up of the series.
The second time around and the book is even better. Deathly Hallows is a lesson in how to end stories. And it also shows that you don't really need to build up to the ending till the last book. The concept of Horcruxes got introduced in the previous book and Hallows only in this one. And yet Rowling gives you the impression that she had them in mind all along. And finally to cap it all of, there is a whole puzzle solving built into this book which causes surprises till the very last chapter. If I was really hellbent on picking a flaw then I feel I could have done without the epilogue:-). The highest points have to go for the way she handled Dobby and Snape. Hats off and look forward to the third revision in a few years time. Bloody Brilliant!
Satisfying end to a series. The conclusion tied in nicely and the epilogue is a particularly sweet touch.
This is actually my first time ever rereading Deathly Hallows. I was a little disappointed when the book was originally released, but I enjoyed it much more this time around. It would be hard for any book to live up to the expectations I had for this. I still wish there would've maybe been some bigger twists and turns, but it's still a great read. That said, about 5 years later and I'm still not a fan of that epilogue. I'm a OBHWF shipper (especially in the books) but the end is just far too schmaltzy for my taste. Everything was far too neat and clean.
You've got to love J.K. Rowling. I think she is a genius, that Rowling woman. The final book, and yet she still manage to mesmerize us with the adventure of a young wizard.
I've got to hand it to Rowling for having the guts to “kill” off several characters, even the key ones like Dumbledore and Snape. Who would've thought that Snape is not actually who we thought he is? And who would've thought that there's actually a more human side to Snape? I certainly did not expect that. And his death and his memories (as shown to Harry through Pensieve) actually brought tears to my eyes.
The death of several lovable characters in their fight against the Dark Lord also makes my eyes misty. We might question why do they have to die, but I see this as a need to make it more believable. After all, every war has its own casualties, sacrifices, blood must be spilled.
I was holding my breath towards the end of the book. Such is the impact of the book to me. And if it can do that, it's a damn well good story. But alas, all good things must come to an end. This will be the book that I will remember for a long time. With this, we part, Harry Potter.
Eh, wait. The final installment of the movie is yet to come out. And with that, I shall bid you goodbye. I had the time of my life, by the way.
