A short little read! Like reading a first grader's writing with slang and conversational language lol kind of reminds me of the movie Pompoko, the animals/raccoons trying to find a place to live and needing to live amongst the humans. Dark, sad, reflective.

Not sure this was complete, left off at the foxes observing the mall, but did they get food? Did they get caught or chased away? Regardless it was delightful.
For Fox' Sake - what a disaster! What an unholy mess of a novella! Our protagonist, Fox 8, who is, you guessed it, a fox, gets a quick glance of what humanity is capable of.This is a promising premise and, if excitedly well, could lead to an interesting story. Unfortunately, it turns out foxes don't “speak” English very well and I don't have much patience for sentences like this:“But I was fast and nated by those music werds, and desired to understand them total lee.”The entire booklet is written like that and the story is just as “meh”. In Fox 8's own words:“Reeding my Story bak just now, I woslike: O no, my Story is a bumer. There is the deth of a gud pal, and no plase of up lift, or lerning a leson. The nise Fox's first Groop stays lost, his frend stays ded. Bla.”Yes, bla. Read something else. This is bollocks. Blog Facebook Twitter Instagram
Beautiful, funny, and heartbreaking. Small book that packed a big punch in the gut.
3.5~ I liked this more than I thought I would. I haven't read any other Saunders, for context.
Fox 8 is kind of a grown-up, weird Lorax. It's funny, but it has a heavier bottom line about the cruelty of humans, both inadvertent and deliberate. Its short length and charming pictures make it a nice break from longer reads.
It's definitely not for everyone, verging on love/hate territory. I don't quite know how it would work as an audiobook. But it made me laugh and put forth a message simple enough for the page count.
“Sometimes, troting on my bludy pads threw a Yuman zone, such as RiverWalk Estates, along such rodes as Hummingbird Way and Slow Stream Ave or even Melody Manner Passage, seeing so many grate Dens, with lites like indoor suns, and water shooting majik lee out of theregrass at will, seeing that long line of Kars trot away so proud every morning full of Yumans, and the other splenders Yumans could do, such as make grass short, such as cause flowrs to grow inside there Dens, I woslike: Why did the Curatr do it so rong, making the groop with the gratest skills the meenest?”
Fox 8 has learned to speak, read and write “Yuman” by listening to bedtime stories at the window of a house, and herein writes on his observations, adventures, and questions to us. A sweet, small piece encouraging humans to view ourselves through the eyes of another species.
CW: violence against animals by humans
I thought this was a novel, but I'm kind of glad it turned out to be a short story/novella because it's a little too cute for my taste.
Fox 8 is a lot of things, it is a short little story about a clever fox. It will give you all of the feels. It is written by a genius whose work I adore. For me, this story is really about how the wealthy treat the poor in this country, but it may mean something else to another reader.
???Then due to feeling ???luv,??? wud bend down, putting snout and lips to the heds of her pups, which was called: ???gudnite kiss.??? Which I got a kik out of that! Because that is also how we show our luv for our pups, as Foxes! It made me feel gud, like Yumans cud feel luv and show luv. In other werds, hope full for the future of Erth!???
what an adorable, stirring little book. told by fox 8, it narrates a small, dreemer of a fox??? perspective on his life and on the yumans that live around him. it goes from extremely funny to painful and from deep to dry in mere sentences. a highly recommended tiny read.
