I really loved Catching Fire, it is personally my favorite. It is a prefect balance of mind games with action.
Katniss is a strong character. She's independent and self-sufficient, and she'll do anything for the people she loves. All of a sudden she can't do anything. It takes some reading to find that maybe The Hunger Games had more of an effect on her. I think this should have been focused on in the beginning screw the impeding love triangle. We are smart readers. From the first book I know Kitniss is going to have a lot of feeling searching. Book is rushed in the wrong places.
The book still has great concept, scenes, and characters that keep me reading.
A well-done sequel to the Hunger Games, yet one where you had to have read the first book or else you'd be lost. A little predictable at certain points, yet the book was still exciting and a fantastic read.
Quite difficult to picture and understand what was going on, but it was an exciting read. Got rewarded with a major cliffhanger at the end.
I was not all that impressed with [b:The Hunger Games 2767052 The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) Suzanne Collins http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1293504845s/2767052.jpg 2792775] when I read it in May so I waited a bit before starting in on the sequel. When I did get around to it, it felt like an afterthought. Perhaps the break was all that I needed to fall for this series. I didn't realize how much I loved the characters until they were back in my life. I got two chapters in and was completely hooked. I think this book was more interesting and exciting than its prequel. I'm waiting to read the third in the series so I can draw out the anticipation as much as possible.
BY FAR MY FAVORITE!!!!! lets hope mockingjay is just as suspenseful. The Hunger Games series leaves you yearning for more...and that is why I ran to Borders to buy the last two books in the series before they close... haha
Good 2nd book to the trilogy. Enjoyed the series so far and look forward to reading the final book.
The audible book had very long pauses between the chapters, enough to make me think that the player had stopped. Its they had to hit a certain minimum length like double spacing a report.
Pure confection that I guzzled back in no time. Sure Katniss' perpetually misdirected internal dialogue can get old and there's an element of been there done that but I've already picked up book 3. I already bummed knowing that I'm 2/3 finished the entire series.
The plot takes a twist in the middle of this volume and keeps you on the edge of your seat towards the end. With this, the entire series moves from being a story of survival to that of rebellion. Can't wait to continue on to the final volume.
Can't believe book 2 reads like it managed to top book 1. It's like book 1 all over again, except... better - in almost every way. More intense, more intriguing, more brutal, more surprising. I figured out an over-arching plot, but for most of the book, I keep getting pleasantly surprised by unpredictable plot twists. Intense action? Check. Suspense? Check. Shock? Check. Humor? Check. Sorrow? Check. Love triangle? Check. Political intrigue? Check. Conspiracy? Check.
Cliffhanger? Most definitely check. That's the only bad thing I can think of - except, since I already have book 3... I'll just keep going.
Love, love, love this series! Katniss rocks! I will take her over Bella any day of the week (my apologies to the Twilight fans, but Katniss is SO much better a heroine than Bella). I'm getting ready to begin Book 3 Mockingjay. Not longer forward for this ride to be over!
Whereas the first book in the series didn't really demonstrate a lot of depth to either the characters or the world, I felt this was remedied well int the sequel. The enemies felt more threatening, the world felt more developed, and the characters seemed to become much more multidimensional. All in all, I felt much more excited to read the next entry than I did after finishing the first.
It was a little darker than than the first book and definitely ended in a way that left me eager to start reading the third book. It's been a fun series so far.
Freeyow! (not a word, I know, but...) Took [b:The Hunger Games 2767052 The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) Suzanne Collins http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1267255754s/2767052.jpg 2792775] and kicked it up a notch. Compelling just doesn't cover it. On the whole, I enjoyed [b:The Hunger Games 2767052 The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) Suzanne Collins http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1267255754s/2767052.jpg 2792775] more, but this was a very worthy sequel, and definitely left me wanting to/needing to move on to [b:Mockingjay 7260188 Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) Suzanne Collins http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1291338443s/7260188.jpg 8812783]
Catching Fire is just amazing. Much better than the Hunger Games. Everything is set up perfectly for the events in Mockingjay.
I was worried whether, after how the last book ended, this one would turn out to be a sop-fest. To my relief, the ‘soppiness' is kept to a minimum, and the focus is squarely on action. The ‘revelation' towards the middle of this volume was a surprise (in a nice way), but the scenario that led to seemed rushed. And the ending, sigh... talk about leaving you hanging!
Again, I pretty much just injected this book straight into my bloodstream. It was very upsetting, but compelling.

re-read and like I HEAR what you're all saying about the pacing of this being kind of weird but also I don't care and also part of the YA experience is sometimes feeling like you're smarter than the protagonist and I feel like Katniss is so believably closed off that everything she does makes sense to her, and thus to me
Didn't think this was quite as good as The Hunger Games, but still another fascinating, captivating read. There were quite a few plot twists I didn't expect and I really can't wait to read [b:Mockingjay 7260188 Mockingjay (Hunger Games, #3) Suzanne Collins http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1282388315s/7260188.jpg 8812783] when it comes out.
Another fabulous page turner in this series.I didn't like Peeta & Katniss having to go back into the arena but oh, how it made those pages fly!And the ending...twist upon twist. Can't wait for [b:Mockingjay 7260188 Mockingjay (Hunger Games, #3) Suzanne Collins http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1282388315s/7260188.jpg 8812783]'s release shortly!

Short review: The best fiction book I have read this year. I liked it better than book one (Hunger Games) which I also liked. But Catching Fire gave more depth to the characters. I don't like giving away much of the content of a second book because so much would be spoiled if you haven't read the first book yet. This is an intellegent, portayal of a 17 year old girl. She is not perfect, she is not superhuman, but she is quite talented and uses her talents well.
