GO READ THIS NOW.
I am so stunned by the ending of this second book. I need to preorder [b:Mockingjay|7260188|Mockingjay (Hunger Games, #3)|Suzanne Collins|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1282388315s/7260188.jpg|8812783] ASAP. An incredible sequel to The Hunger Games, I can't really review this book without giving away major spoilers.
I had to reread this because I realized that I never reviewed it!Everything I loved about The Hunger Games reappears in this sequel. Katniss, Peeta, Gale, nonstop action and cliffhangers. These books are just amazing! This is the only book I've ever read that I didn't want to finish. Why? I knew once it was over I would have to wait an agonizing amount of time for Mockingjay to finish out the story for me! Oh Katniss, what will happen to you?Suzanne Collins is the master of the moving plot. There has never been a time in either of her books that I was bored or felt like things were dragging. She knows exactly how much to give you, dangling it on a string in front of you so you will keep following along. Did I mention [b:Mockingjay 7260188 Mockingjay (Hunger Games, #3) Suzanne Collins http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1282388315s/7260188.jpg 8812783] is so far away?To end this: I love these books. Plain and simple. Trilogy in hardcover you shall be mine!
A continuation of Hunger Game. Really liked how the plot was developing in the arena. The rescue and participation of some people in the rebellion was predictable. The books ends in a terrible cliffhanger.
Just as good as the first book and definitely a page-turning, action-packed thriller. But be ready, because there will be suprises aplenty.
Loved it. I now plan to reread both The Hunger Games and this soon. It is better than the first because you learn more about Panem, the districts, and the games. I was so blown away by the plot and pacing that I didn't stop to think much about the message or the characters, but I think those are pretty thought-provoking as well. Katniss is a great central character; she's sympathetic but has a certain coldness/brutality in her core that is hard to relate to. I have done some reading on the text and it turns out much of the trilogy is inspired by Greek mythology, particularly Theseus and the Minotaur. I love how this book seems almost real. I also love the central male character and how the traditional gender roles are reversed between him and Katniss. He is the one who is motivated by love. He is the nurturer who bakes bread. Katniss on the other hand is the hunter who just wants to provide for her family. The dystopia these books present is horrifying but really only about 1 degree off of the world we live in now. Fascinating.
Would this book never come in at the library for me? I finally broke down and used a gift card to buy it while on a Wal-Mart run. (That doesn't count as really buying a book, does it? No money was actually exchanged.)
I'm glad I did. I don't often buy fiction, but this was ten dollars well spent. And, of course, like book one, book two left me desperate to read book three.
So...it was amazing :))
Suzanne Collins is one of the most amazing authors on this planet..xD
I'm not going to give anything away..but the ending was too fast for me and parts of the book kind of depressed me..
