I enjoyed it!! I loved how it wasn't predictable. I thought that I knew who it was and then I got the shock of who it was. It 100% kept me on my toes. The only thing that kept it from being 5 stars for me was the way that the book was set up. I might come back and change it because it probably just wasn't something that I was use to.
Please feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts on the book!
A wonderful way to start the year. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Such a fun look into a murder mystery. The characters were really enjoyable and I couldn't help rooting for Pip and Ravi. I love the diversity amongst the main cast. You never see Indian main characters and I love that we finally do. I loved being able to help solve the murder even though I wasn't right most of the time. I was right about Becca's boyfriend covering things up for her because she killed her sister out of jealousy thought! I would really recommend to anyone who enjoys a good YA book!
I love this book. It is so beautifully written. The best part about it was that the murderer was never obvious like in a lot of books I have read. It had thrill of never knowing who could be the killer and at the end everybody got what they deserved.
Most of the time I thought the killer of sal and Andie was either Max or Jason bell but when Pip figured out it was Elliott I literally screamed.
And that twist where the girl Elliott had kidnapped was not Andie it was just perfect.
I read this book in one sitting and it was everything I was looking for after finishing the Truly Devious series.
Pippa is what I was missing with Stevie from Truly Devious. She's consumed with solving a murder from five years ago, but she also does her homework and keeps her life mostly together. Yes, it's weird that I care so much about this element of my ya characters, but I got so stressed out by Stevie's absolute disregard for the elements of her life that weren't murder and it distracted me from the plot of Truly Devious.Moving past the Pippa v Stevie comparison, Pippa and Ravi were such a lovely pair and the twists of solving Andie Bell's murder and clearing Sal Singh's name were exciting and consuming. One of my top reads of 2023.
didn't particularly move me, but I haven't read 250 pages in one day for a long time!
guys dont read a whole book in one day my vision is blurry and my head hurts
After years of brushing off this book, thinking the name was silly, I finally gave it a chance, and man, was I surprised. A tale of suspense and mystery, interwoven in such a way that I couldn't guess what happened next if I tried, while still feeling as if the author knew where they were taking it, I LOVED this book.
The characters were multi-faceted and flawed, and I loved the main love interest. Every page I turned, I turned with excitement while I read with bated breath the next twist, the next gasp.
I highly recommend this book, and if you were like me, and brushed it off due to the name, or to the fact it's young adult, I ask you to give it a try.

I can see 16 year old teen detectives obsessed me giving this book five stars but now i relate more to the older sibling chracter and can't condone the stupid shenangins the young'ns get up to in order to advance the plot. also i had been listing to Album Guts by Olivia rodrigo these past few days and the vibe of that album elevated this book's reading experience quite a bit. Still a good mystery novel and if youve never been exposed to these tropes maybe even a bangin' one.

I couldn't take this book seriously... yes it's a fiction but it just didn't work for me
4.5/5⭐
“I'll probably regret this, but”—he paused, flashing her a small smile—”we're partners in crime, after all.”
I don't know if this really counts as a review or not because I don't have much to say except that now I completely understand the hype, I need the second book immediately, and Pip & Ravi forever
Des Ende war ein bisschen gerusht aber ansonsten super gut, sehr spannend und sehr gute twists.
When a book leaves you grinning like an idiot or sends you through a rollercoaster of emotions (good and bad), then you KNOW it's a good book!
Read the rest at your discretion cause there may be some spoilers

this was absolutely brilliant! it got me captivated from the beginning up until the end, the plot is amazing and the writing ??? oh my god fantastic. really, i loved this with all my heart. the character development, their relationships, the murder case and its suspects, everything is connected and it gives you a sense of connection with the investigation, because it isn't just a random detective investigating, it's a teenage girl who lives and is part of this town and population, she knows this people, she has been living this reality and it's just amazing
just brilliant read it all in one setting which in itself is quite a feat, for a debut book this is too brilliant, loved Pip and Ravi, will read the rest of the series for sure!
An excellent YA mystery with great characters? It's more likely than you think! This was so good. First things first, great and belieavable mystery with layers.Really well done pacing that moves along well but also always keeps some mystery to keep the reader engaged, even when you think it's all over. And now the main reason I love this book - the characters and the writing. The protagonist is likeable, she's nerdy and always on top of her schoolwork, but is not the stereotypical outcast bookworm #notlikeothergirls, she's funny and chatty and has friends that she goes camping with. I also appreciate Pip's dad, who was just so endearing and after reading two books portraying broken and abusive families, reading about Pip's family was refreshing. None of the characters were flat, everyone had their distinct personality and nuances and I appreaciate that. I feel like a quote from Pip sums it up perfectly: And though the story has its monsters, I've found that it is not one that can be so easily cleaved into the good and the bad. In the end, this was a story about people and their different shades of desperation crashing up against each other.Lastly, it was just so well written, some pieces of the dialogue just felt exactly like something I could hear myself or my friends say, like “I know it's not enviromentaly friendly, but I always wanted to put up a murder board.” Plus other lowkey mentions of issues the current youth gives a damn about just made it feel real.I'd definitely recommend this, especially if you liked for example [b:One of Us Is Lying 58679358 One of Us Is Lying (One of Us is Lying, #1) Karen M. McManus https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1632078539l/58679358.SY75.jpg 49825436] (even though I'd say The Good Girl's Guide to Murder is much better O:))Tropes I want to mention: the teacher sleeping with the student, the madwoman in the attic
A Captivating Gem: My Book Club's First Pick
I was thrilled when this book became the inaugural choice for my work book club, and I proudly stand as the only member who completed it. To say that I devoured it would be an understatement! The narrative is endlessly intriguing and has rekindled my passion for reading. This remarkable piece served as an exceptional motivation for me to delve back into the world of books. So enamored was I by the experience that I immediately procured the second installment in the series, eagerly hoping it matches the brilliance of its predecessor!
This literary marvel leaves me without a single critique, an unusual circumstance since I typically scrutinize my reads carefully. The storyline and character development are nothing short of phenomenal. A particular delight was Pippa, the main character, and her unique way of narrating and processing information, along with the skillfully placed foreshadowing that kept me engaged throughout. The unexpected conclusion took me by surprise, but I must admit, I loved every twist and turn.
The author's writing style and the book's layout further elevate this work to greatness. There is an undeniable charm to everything about it—a real page-turner that effortlessly flows and keeps readers captivated. I can't praise it enough; it truly stands as a paragon of literary excellence.
While I wholeheartedly enjoyed the book and found it remarkably well-written, it didn't quite reach that coveted “wow” factor that would earn it a full five stars in my rating. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a captivating and engaging story that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.
my only problem is that this is so case-centric. we didn't have much time to know how the other characters reacted (pip's parents, andie and becca's parents, cara and naomi etc.) but at the same time i also liked the approach because i don't like to be muddled by too much emotions
This book is absolutely amazing. Once I started reading, I honestly could not stop. So many plot twists and everything was even explained as it went so I don't feel like there were any plot holes. Many of the characters had different sides of them which was great, but truly the only character we get a lot of is Pippa. Ravi is awesome although I don't understand when exactly they got into a relationship. It seemed really really sudden at the end. Also, he's 20 and she's 17 maybe 18 so I don't know confusing.
But the relationship is nonexistent and completely and unimportant. The murder mystery was written fantastically, and was so engaging and I am not gonna stop talking about how much I love this book. I have been in a dry spell for why a box I haven't been hooked in this one has reaffirmed my love for books for this age group.
I recommend this book to all people looking for a classic murder mystery, especially if you like Veronica Mars.
Content warning: death of family pet, mention of rape, drunk driving, hit and run, mention of emotional and mentally abusive father, drug dealing and drug use, and more but mostly mentioned in the past tense not thing Pippa is dealing with first hand.
I really enjoyed this book despite it being YA. Even though I guessed part of the ending at the beginning, I still enjoyed reading and will definitely read the rest of the series.
This book was a lot of fun. I definitely didn't see the reveals coming, and I was at the edge of my sit for a lot of it. I am however very confused as to why the US edition is so different to the UK one. I tried to read my physical copy alongside the audiobook, only to find out my US copy was missing full lines that the UK audiobook had. I can (somewhat) understand changing a few names and words, but removing full sentences? These changes might not affect the plot, but they do make the writing seem dry and the characters flat. I can't understand why they would do this. Where they trying to make the book shorter so that it seemed more approachable? Was the editor to lazy to adapt what they saw as unnecessary lines? I don't get it and I wish they would stop. That's my rant, thanks for reading.
not my usual genre of choice but this was so entertaining!!! i hope the other 2 books are just as good
