See allI found Fforde's first Thursday Next book really fun with a great detective/adventure story. The best part of this book is the anachronism present throughout, giving us a unique picture of how London could be if there were a few key differences (such as time travel)! The only criticism I have is that the book is very busy. There are so many elements to the story that with a new world to get used to, it gets a mite confusing. I'm eager to pick up the next in the series!
I can't help but get sucked in to Pierce's world yet again. Beka is a strong, realistic heroine with heart wrenching flaws and extrodinary strengths. I love that Pierce makes a point to include the little things, like loincloths and food, that are so often ignored. The ending was a wild ride of highs and lows, and I'm sad to leave Beka behind.
Although the mystery was exciting, the actions of the characters frustrated me to no end, and the chemistry between Lin and the rest of the cast is tepid at best.
Feels like the story is just getting started! Lots of action with some tender moments in between. The love story feels a little cliche, but I love the society Lu has created.
