Going into this book after having already seen the movie, I was expecting something closer to that. I was extremely surprised to see that it surpassed any expectation I had.
The book follows someone interviewing many people of many countries as they tell their stories of what they faced during the ‘zombie war'. I found that the book and its situations seemed a little too realistic. I could see America acting exactly as they did in the book. This isn't a bad thing but more shocking and enjoyable. It felt more real, like this actually happened.
Overall, the writing was great and the format of the book was surprisingly enjoyable. I would recommend this look over the movie. You don't need to be a horror fan to enjoy the book either.
While the Twilight franchise isn't perfect, I found myself deeply enjoying each and every moment I had with it. The writing isn't the greatest but it doesn't have to be. You can practically feel the love Bella and Edward have for each other without needing extravagant words depicting it.
The subtle transformation Bella has when she's a vampire is the most well written thing. No more blushing or feeling embarrassed or being extremely shy. Bella was now outgoing and more herself than anything.
This series will always be so precious to me and this was the perfect ending.
I will say that I didn't particularly enjoy Jacob's section. He quickly became a least favorite character for me.
4 1/2 stars
Holly Jackson has a way of writing mysteries that I love. Her books don't feel too long or short and once you realize what happened, you'll be shocked but also excited to see where it goes.
Bel was an enjoyable character. She wasn't perfect and she didn't hesitate to get to the bottom of things which allowed the story to run smoothly and fast. Her way of thinking allowed the reader (or at least me) to reach conclusions fast and right when she did.
I was expecting the story to go on way and utilize the documentary crew to find out why her mother disappeared but I was pleasantly shocked when the story took a different route.
My only problem is the ending. It felt clumpy and like things were being over explained. It felt just a bit longer than necessary. But other than that, the ending was satisfying and the happy ending well deserved for the characters.
After seeing the hype around Fear Street (the trilogy) I decided to buy a book from the franchise. While it has sat on my shelf for well over two years now, I enjoyed the book. I finally read it today and I was not disappointed. The book was fast paced, short, and kept my attention. The twist towards the end was kind of expected (then again I am 19) but enjoyable nonetheless. I would have to read more from the series to truly determine if this was a good introduction into the series or not.
I decided to read this franchise on a whim. I started when I was 18 and now I am going on 20. I can truly understand why this series is held so closely to peoples hearts. The characters are enjoyable and the story line never bored me.
Everything about this book was near perfect. I do have a few complaints.
1. I wish Severus Snape didn't die. His death felt unneeded and overall made me really sad, especially when learning all he did for Harry.
2. I wish Dumbledore had been a better character. Dumbledore was always that character that you could trust on saving the day, I understood Harry couldn't have been told every detail but I feel like he withheld far too much for far too long.
Not bad at all. Felt more like a filler book to move the story along. Harry's attitude in this was quite annoying. It felt as though he saw himself as the hero of them all when in reality if it hadn't been for Hermonie, he probably wouldn't have gotten this far. Snape deserves so much better from those around him as well.
Not much to say. This book is sort of the beginning of the end for Harry Potter. With Voldemort now back, it just seems as though there's little that could happen until the final battle. Although? there's three books after this so I don't really know what could possibly happen now.
Overall very good, you'd think that as this point that's just realize that the defense agains the dark arts class is cursed.
This series has so much potential in my opinion. The first book was golden. Perfect. An amazing mix of murder, mystery, romance, and the late 2010's magic. This book was just okay. It lacked what made the book so good. The mystery. It seemed unfulfilled when it was over, as though there was one final mysterious detail Pip was missing. But as I got closer to the very last page, I got sadder. Finding out that Stanley had such a double life with no prior details was annoying and felt rushed. Seeing Pip solve the murder with really no struggle after having only solved one murder before was also slightly annoying. Pip is made out to be this genius that is able to take any detail and solve it's missing piece but it just didn't seem real.
The town sucks, the killers suck, Stanley sucks, and the justice system sucks.
I haven't heard many good reviews on the next books so that scares me. I'll have to read this to see for myself but I can only hope that it's more like the previous book (the first).
I have a suspicious feeling that Pip's humanity will be tried a lot in the next book(s). I just hope that the author doesn't try to feed into shock factor and just writes a book that is similar to the first book and has an enjoyable mystery to solve.
A smart and interesting take a on children story. The subtle horror of it all gives you chills and the helping cat was a very nice touch. Coraline is a protagonist you can't help but love and root for. Her interesting look on life is written to perfect.
The sickening other mother is such a scary touch. Her character overall is insanely creepy and probably one of my favorite antagonist ever.
Overall this tory is written perfectly and can be a fast but easy read. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys horror or just likes the Coraline movie in general.
Reading this was a journey. Not because the book is bad but because it was just difficult to enjoy reading something with such an unlikable main character.
I will admit there were parts where I felt bad for Coriolanus and then I remembered what he did to Finnick and my tear ducts became dry. And I think that's what I don't like about this book. How unnecessary it is. I already knew Coriolanus Snow was a terrible person. And I feel like characters such as Sejanus were just added to add to that point. They built up their friendship for his to die due to Coriolanus' selfishness.
The whole book just felt empty to me.
The whole time I'm reading I just knew Sejanus and Lucy Grey wouldn't make it. And that made me so fucking sad.
The fact that Lucy Grey's story and Hunger Game was hidden and never heard of again makes me so fucking sad. Lucy Grey was someone who was kind and strong, who beat the odds and deserved a happy ending. We will never know if she got a happy ending. Also, I never once believed that Snow actually loved Lucy Grey. It felt like he loved the attention and fame he got by being associated with her.
Overall, this book made me extremely depressed and I regret reading it.
This book tormented me emotionally. This book is the saddest of the three. I cried A LOT. The one person Katniss went into the games to protect ends up dying at the hands of the person she could supposedly trust.
Gale and Katniss' relationship has been permanently damaged due to the fact that Hale participated in the making of the bomb that would kill those kids as well as Prim.
Nearly everyone Katniss had in her life is dead. All because they had one goal, to kill president Snow.
Katniss had been through hell and back in these past three books and it's sad to see her ending so bitter-sweet. It didn't even feel real. I'm glad she got to spend the rest of her life happy with Peeta and eventually her two kids. But the journey those two were on will most likely haunt them for the rest of their lives.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series but the last book I feel could have been better in some aspects. I really wish Finnick would have lived. Of all the characters, Finnick deserved to live the most. I'm shocked Gale even made it this far.
My sister told me about this book being her favorite of the series, and I understand it.
Watching Katniss slowly realize that the rebellion was happening because do her action in the 74th Hunger Games and that she actually might was the rebellion to happen was nice. Katniss' inner dialogue as to why she didn't want it was reasonable. All she's ever cared for was her sister and now her mother. She has to make a choice, either risk it all and continue with the rebellion, or stop and go along with whatever Snow says.
The romance isn't as prominent mainly because Katniss doesn't exactly know what her feelings for Gale are. Does she actually love him romantically? Or does she love him in a more big brother sense? I think that Katniss doesn't exactly know what these feelings are due to the fact that she's only 17 and hasn't felt this way about anyone. Her choosing Gale was a result of Peeta not talking to her. Gale was there for her when she was recovering from the aftermath of the games. In her mind, her feelings for Gale must be romantic. But they aren't.
Finnick is the loml.
Haymitch needs to chose his words better.
Peeta deserved the world.
And Cinna was done extremely dirty.
This book will change how you view the movies forever. The movie has NOTHING on the book. It shocked me seeing just how different Bella was. Bella was funny and had so much more character to her. Edward was also funny and obviously struggled to convey his love for Bella as a safe distance. Bella was a lot closer to the others girls at school than she was in the movies.
The book was a train ride honestly. A good one though. Edward and Bella's relationship was so satisfying to watch. They both loved each other so much. They were both honest with each other and let the other know how they were feeling in the moment. They both were able to read the other like a book. They just work so well together.
Charlie and Alice were for sure my favorites. Alice was sweet and caring while Charlie just tried so hard to be there for Bella whilst trying to keep himself afloat.
The Cullens were amazing too. We didn't get to learn much about them in the beginning but when we did, I had so much fun learning about their stories. Hearing how they were turned and seeing Rosalie have a hard time trusting Bella just added so much more to them as characters. Emmett and Jasper gave such big brother vibes to Bella. Alice was like a little sister almost. Esme was the mother figure she didn't have in Forks. While Carlisle was the caring man who changed just how vampires could act and behave.
Overall, this book is rightfully famous. The writing style wasn't complicated. The romance was easy to watch and made my heart flutter at times. The characters made you want to root for them. It was perfect.
A wonderful way to start the year. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Such a fun look into a murder mystery. The characters were really enjoyable and I couldn't help rooting for Pip and Ravi. I love the diversity amongst the main cast. You never see Indian main characters and I love that we finally do. I loved being able to help solve the murder even though I wasn't right most of the time. I was right about Becca's boyfriend covering things up for her because she killed her sister out of jealousy thought! I would really recommend to anyone who enjoys a good YA book!
This book is worth the money and time you put into it. An incredible look into child actors, abusive, manipulative parents, and more. Jennette puts a humorous spin onto her traumatic experiences as a child, teen and adult. It's a glimpse into the life of someone most of us grew up watching. Some parts were hard to read (due to the uncomfortable feeling it left you with) but you just can't put the book down until you finish every little bit. I would most definitely recommend to anyone.
I might not like how Stephen King writes. Maybe it's just me. The book was okay. Not his best work. The ending was shocking but there was a wholesome feeling in the last 2-3 pages. I was tense though. But it took a while to get to the main point. The drama was annoying at times. Overall, I wouldn't read it again and I don't think I would recommend it to anyone.
I would recommend this book to anyone. Even if you aren't a reader, this is a book everyone should read. The story and messages are things i think everyone should know and read about. The gut wrenching moments were truly sad and the funny family moments were amazing. Everything flowed beautifully and I cant believed I finished it so fast. I loved every second. If you are thinking of reading this book, do it. Please.
