4.59 am: im...upset - this story had so much potential and yet it fell short of expectation / did not entirely?deliver? and like the premise was rly interesting, i'd really wanted to like it :(
the writing could have been better - there were typos/errors all over the place ...¿
it was like a train wreck just waiting to happen, and at times, such a cringefest i had to stop reading
simulataneously - it held my attention enough to want to know how it ends....
i feel like the ideas and concepts were there, just.... not developed well? or, rather - there're better ways to sort out the conflict in plot, etc.
also, the pacing was kinda off?
oh! and the instalove was a huge .... “urgh, why?!” :/
would've liked more nuance in the story telling
persephone (24) actually turned out to be... well, i'll just say i was v e r y disappointed and only continued because i'd already gotten too far into the story to avert my eyes from this “trainwreck”. even hades was very cringey at times ... im so over the mortal/immortal trope hmph :
the only redeeming character: Hermes LOL
idr the last time i binge-read a series like this
absolutely loved the story and being immersed in this world
funnily (?) enough, i'd read a similar book a few months ago but completely forgot i'd read it... Defy the Night was similar in the plot twist that was revealed in book 1 of this series (A Tale of Stars and Shadow), but other than that they're different stories
I'm writing this review at the end of the year, so it's been a while...but there was something about this series that I loved...i don't know how to organize into words
definitely one of those books that I'll probably come back to
a perfect bittersweet ending (full review later)
idk what to say man it was... the story stayed with me for a bit, after i finished reading; i was following the tags and other readers' reactions and the author's updates for a bit
there were so many moments i loved - like the mirrored dialogue, the finishing-sentences-even-though-we're-apart dialogue, THE EPIPHANY cries - that moment in the story was so so so satisfying (moreso than in the first book), THE MARRIAGE, the ending
the politics got to be a little too much, btwn the 65-85% mark; i appreciate the build up but man there was a lot. hmm... it might be a segue into the author's next book, if so - that's super cool. but it started to get politics-heavy and repetitive for a bit.
thief; fae; royalty05/02/2022: okay, i was NOT expecting the paranormal twist halfway through the story LMAO i still laugh when i remember itbut still - i loved the book. plot was kinda (er, mostly?) predictable bc of the tropes, but it was still fun to read. i loved how the story related relevant events, and just jump-cut where appropriate, instead of trying to add filler text/scenes that do nothing for the plot (Ex. “so i was locked up for a week before anything happened” instead of “day 1/7 i did nothing. day 2/7 i did more of the same. day 3/7 ....” - catch my drift?)i think there were 2x that i was shocked - the first was the paranormal plot twist, the second was the ending. thinking on it now - i literally just read a book where that plot twist was the same hey.... lookin' atchu OUABHcan't wait for book 2 hehe ———————————————————————-hey, I liked it ☆☆☆☆bonus star for that plot twist of sorts Merged review:thief; fae; royalty

hey, I liked it ☆☆☆☆
bonus star for that plot twist of sorts
my friend lent me the book after reading it
i think it was well-written - the despair and hopelessness that the character felt at the beginning of the book was effectively described to evoke similar feelings in the reader
i was interested to see how the plot would resolve; personally, found the ending to be a little anti-climatic/predictable, but i loved the epiphany that the protagonist reached nonetheless (:
FMC 35(?) ish
the beginning captivated my interest! but i didn't feel like reading it so i skipped to the end

kinda reminded me of The Hating Game a little bit
a little wordy and repetitive in some places (last 30% felt a little excessive at times ¿)
