Very good read - Father and son spend a month walking the Camino de Santiago. The interaction between Andrew and his son Sam kept me reading to see how the journey ended.
This is comfort reading for me . . . needed something known and loved so I started reading the Dragonriders of Pern series again. Got it on my nook.
Dragonflight Volume 1 : Just re-read this book . . . Anne McCaffrey was my favorite author when I was a teenager. I still love the world of Pern. Lessa, the main character, is one of my favorite characters from the series. I totally enjoyed reentering the series. October 25, 2011
Dragonquest Volume 2: Love the story of F'nor and Brekke . . . Brekke losing her queen dragon and F'nor traveling to the Red Star. Another great character is introduced in this novel - Jaxom. We read of his impression of the white dragon, Ruth. Their story is continued in the third installment in this trilogy “The White Dragon” November 5, 2011
Good read! This is my first Cosby book and I really enjoyed it. Felt the tension throughout the book. I will definitely be reading more books by S. A. Crosby.
This is not a “happy” read but it may be my favorite read of the year so far. Set in Boston 1974, it follows Mary Pat's search for her missing daughter. The desegregating of the Boston school is at its beginning and Southie is caught up in battling the busing of its teenagers to schools in other neighborhoods. Jules has gone missing at the same time as a young black teen has died in a train station in Southie.
Lehane does a great job of showing what was happening at the time. I was really impressed with Lehane's style and how he brought Mary Pat to life. Very good read. (Not a easy read but so good)
Cozy fantasy - the opening of a coffee shop in fantasy setting - very comfy read as fall settles in New England. If you want a relaxing cozy read - this gets strong recommendation from me.
Very good - It reminded me of The Secret History by Donna Tartt. The setting is a specialized place where few are allowed. The characters are fascinating but feel very flawed. You know things will probably end badly for most involved but you can't close the book because it is so good. There were twists that I never saw closing which is rare.
Read 60% of this book. I got to the point where I had enough of royal intrigue. Maybe when I have a lot more peace I will finish it.
Re-read in light of the turmoil our country is currently in. This is a favorite of mine... it is a look at what slavery really looked like for black Americans. There is no pretty plantation picture here.
This book should be mandatory reading for anyone involved in child protection - lawyers, judges and social workers. I was floored by what was allowed in this situation. We have a flawed system of child protection in this country that is tightly tied to the systemic racism that exists in our nation.
My heart breaks for the children and their birth families. We need to have a system that learns how to support families. I don't know if that is possible but we, as a nation, need to do a better job of trying to make it happen.
Great read - Latest book in the Amgash series. Felt so relevant... Lucy Barton and her ex-husband retreat to Maine due to the pandemic. We see the pandemic and all of the current events as seen through Lucy's eyes. We also follow her family's changes due to the pandemic. I enjoyed this newest installment in Lucy's story.
What a strange and wonderful book this is.... If you enjoy horror and happy endings this is great read. Adelaide has traveled to Montana to homestead. She has brought something with her....
Definitely my favorite book of the year... beautifully written and heartbreaking. I loved everything about this books - the beautiful words, the characters that she brought to life and the story that I can't stop thinking about. I am recommending it to everyone who crosses my path. Ng has created a story of what our country could become if we allow it. This novel represents what world would be created if our fears are given into. I will be thinking about this book for a long time.
Also this novel gets major bonus points because librarians are heroes in this book “Librarians, of all people, understood the value of knowing, even if that information could not yet be used.”
I enjoyed this mystery - such a noir feel to it. I am hoping that this is just the first in a series.
Read for Massachusetts Center for the Books book challenge: January - A book less than 100 pages in length
Twyla and Roberta, who shared a room for four months in an orphanage, are shaped by the society they live in. We see them meet several times throughout their lives. We are never told their races. My belief is Morrison wanted the reader to see in the end their races don't matter - we are all trapped by the racism/power system of our society.
This book was a quick read. It grabbed my attention from the first page. Interesting characters and great plot.
So GOOD... Touched on so many issues that 2020 and since have been brought to the forefront. The words and images were fire... Quick read but it will stay with me for a long time.
Heartbreaking memoir. Bloom tells of her husband's diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and his decision to end his life and how they as a couple navigated the final months of his life. It was beautiful and sad.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the early copy.

This was an interesting memoir - Pentland has a insider view of hollywood entertainment and the toxicity that comes from it. I was fascinated and disturbed by her teenage years in institutionalized reform/mental hospitals. She honestly has survived amazingly healthy and well rounded from some stuff that would destroy a lot of people. I am kind shocked and amazed that she has such a good relationship with her parents - glad for her because it is much better for her to be where she is mentally. Good read. ( side note: Sometimes she assumed you knew things because her mother is famous. I would have liked it in the book versus me having to google it.)
A good (troubling) read ... makes you think about the nature of parenting and what makes a good/bad parent. What level of control should “the government” have over parenting? Can you have a “very bad day” and still be a good mother?
Great art - Very good biography of Patricia Highsmith. Glad I got a chance to read it. If you like her books - I think you would find this an interesting read. Gives some insight on her journey as a creator.
I really enjoy this series... I don't usually read series back to back but I want to stay with Lucy as long as I can ❤️ I love Strout's writing and style. The books are short but deep.
