I usually read mystery novels, so the idea of reading a mystery novella was unsure and I was very skeptical to start In the Heart of the Fire by Dean Koontz because:
-I never read his work before.
-I never read mystery novella before.
But After this, I realized that you don't need to read big books to enjoy the mystery, and mystery and they works perfectly fine.
Overall, if you want to read a mystery book, but don't want to read a huge one, then try In the Heart of the Fire it was a fun, light and pleasant read
I really like it, the characters were amazing, the story was good too. Though, it was kind of short. But, a really good read! 4 stars.
OMG...
WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!!
this book was so dark , disturbing , twisted ... in a way that is possible to put it in words.. I'm so speechless....
I'm going to be like this for the rest of the week
I loved it, I find it hard to get into the book at first, and I sill have some unanswered questions... and the ending didn't answer them to me, I felt like there wer but I'm satisfied with the ending.
I really liked the characters, especially the main character Misaki. You can feel that she is mature and strong in time of war and sufferings! But her husband... No at first, But Yes the end, you can't hate someone without knowing their reasons right?!
What I loved the most when I was reading this book is that it gave me so ideas about Japanese culture and how are the Japanese warriors.
Now I really want to visit Japan...
The set up was interesting. However, the pace was kind of slow, and ... I don't know, like nothing happened, I was very into the book at the beginning, but kind of lost my interest at the end. I understand its book 1 of the series, it just did not grab me that much to finish the series. Or I will ... Who knows.
Actual rating: 2.75 out of 5
Not the best way to end the series! And i'm SO SAD... Because .. UGH!! I had so much hype for the ending since book 1. I was expecting a really big, epic fight/war at the end, some mind blowing plot twists ( there was one, but it was at the very end of the book, so was kind meh) or a tragic death ... But none of that happened .. I'm so disappointed...
I'm ... so disappointed . I had very high expectations and hope that this will be like the first book, or even better. I mean the first one was .. FIRE, dark, fast paced, full of action. In short words, I couldn't put it down .. But this ... sadly it did not work for me, I don't know what had happened, I felt like I was reading different book from a different series, it was slow for me, not enough action, and ... the characters, to be honest, I did not care about any of them, even the MC.
I almost dnfed it many times, that explains how much I didn't enjoy it as i hoped.
I'm very sad, I really wanted to finish the series, but I don't think I will.
First of all, it took me longer to finish it for ... unknown reason but ..
OMG!! WTH was that?! ... i'm ... speechless, all i can say is, i loved it so much, 5 STARS.
and second of all: Dante ...
I freaking love that man.
Listening to the audiobook performed by R.C. Bray while reading at the same time made this book WAYY better... I was going to give up on the series, but I CHANGED MY MIND.. I will finish it.
So many plot twists and I FREAKING loved them, like you'll never know when the next one will smack you in the face, my jaw hit the floor so many times while reading this book. It made me feel like I was the court with them. However, I had some troubles getting into it, because it's a legal thriller so it was complicated to me, but it's a very good read. I really enjoyed it.
I think I should have re-read the previous books before reading this one. Because... I freaking forgot most of what had happened in book 1 and 2 so I don't know how I feel about it...
That's what happens when you start a different series without finishing the one you are already reading...
TOUGH READ. and Skippy annoyed me A LOT...
I don't know if I'm going to finish the series ....
I guess I will give it another chances and see ...
what in the bleeding skies did I just read? this literally is the best fantasy book I read this month .... like all hands down ..
A masterpiece ....
5/5 stars, Sabaa Tahir is now my favourite author
Book #5 of 2023
AT LAST. I'm done with this book.
It feels like I have been reading it forever. I loved the story, the setting and the “grimdark” events. But the pacing was so ... slow, it made me drop the book and take a break from it, and even dnfing it. However, I'm glad I finished it, because I like it. And surprisingly.. I'm very excited to know what the next books bring.
I feel like by the end of this review, a lot of people are going to hate me. I know, I'm sorry, I can't help but express my thoughts about this book . Because I didn't enjoy it as I hoped. I heard a lot about it so I had super high expectations, and sadly, it didn't meet them. Not forgetting that I have issues with it. issues the made me want to stop reading at some points. these are the biggest ones:
-The insta-love, I know it was in a different, and it went through years. But still its Insta-love.
-Benton freaking Kessler, he's the main issue. This dude, barely 2 minutes after they meet, he's fantasizing about undressing her in his head, thinking what color her underpants is, later on forcing her to do something she's not comfortable with like wearing that dress, hid the truth form her all this years, .. etc. How is that romantic? Huh? That's CREEPY and manipulating . I know he hid the truth because he didn't want to lose her or to hate him, and that something bad happened to him on that same date, but its not enough to justify himself. And she deserved a proper apology, not just a letter.
-The fact that she asked for forgiveness, it's enough that she forgives him but why is she asking that he forgives her? WHY?! if I was in her place I would have moved on and tell Ben that is over for real and he's lucky that our next November is not going to be at the court.
And if you are wondering about the plot twist, yes I didn't see it coming, that all I'm gonna say about it.
I know you are gonna say it's fiction, it's just a book. But my issues with Ben, they weren't okay, they weren't romantic, they were toxic and not right, they shouldn't be shown to be acceptable in books. I couldn't pretend it's just a book and accept it. As much as I loved her writing style, I'm still gonna rate it ⭐/5, it hurts so much to give a hyped book 1 star.
And if you think I'm too harsh with the book, I'm sorry again. But that's how I feel about it.
Also if you have a different option, don't forget to share it in the comments below. I'd love to hear it.
I liked the first book of the series, but this? I'm disappointed. It started well, however, it got boring, repetitive.
No depth to the new characters so, I didn't care about them.
Mare is getting more annoying and arrogant.
The relationship between Cal and Mare felt forced, no chemistry between them.
Overall, I don't think I'll complete this series, I'm not intrigued enough to finish it.
“Don't let me be alone.” Darkling
Darkling deserved better ( I finished this series just for HIM...
3 stars just for the sake of Warner, Kenji and the supreme commander. they are like my fav characters so far. and let's not forget about the drama because it was ... SO MUCH! I still don't see why this series is so hyped.
