“A story of friendship, family, and the choices that shape us.”
Children of the Earth is a continuation of where we left off in the first book of the Mothmar trilogy, Daughter of the Sun. We take a journey further into the world of Mothmar and learn more of the background of some of our main characters and how they are all connected.
There are so many themes that I found woven throughout the story, especially: dark vs. light and the tough choices that determine our path in life.
Though there are multiple points of view to follow, I never got lost. I said it after reading Daughter of the Sun and I'll say it again now, the world building is fantastic!
If you're looking for a spicy romance, you're not going to find it here. What you WILL find are subtle, butterfly inducing moments that will linger with you. There is a scene where my two favorite characters hugged (very PG, that's all), and I still cannot stop thinking about it.
This is an epic fantasy that is gripping and so unpredictable. I feel blessed to have received an ARC and now can't believe how long we have to wait to find out what happens after such a cliffhanger ending!
P.S. If you share my love for indie authors, please run and get a copy of this. You won't be disappointed.
The premise of this book sounded interesting, and I was really looking forward to reading the advanced copy that I was provided by NetGalley. Unfortunately, it it did not deliver. While the mystery and suspense that I was looking for was there, the writing did not draw me into the story. I put some effort into pushing through the first few chapters, but unfortunately did not end up finishing it.
Emily Henry creates characters that are beyond relatable. Harriet's upbringing hit close to home for me. Some moments were like looking in a mirror. Emily did a great job with showing how our upbringing impacts our lives and how we handle certain situations. I had several physical reactions to the emotional moments.
Because we go through the whole story from Harriet's POV, after finishing I realized how much more I wanted to know about Wyn. To get some of his thoughts especially from a mental health point of view. This is no way took away from the story and how good it was, just something that I wished was there.
It's not just a romance, it's a book about friendship too and how those relationships change through the years. The comfort of having people in your life that know you well.
It overall is a lesson about what “happy place”means. It can be a place or a person or several of these. It's about listening to our hearts and following what makes YOU happy, not what you think will make others happy.
I loved this book and was sad when it was over. It definitely will be one to reread through the years (just like everything else that Emily Henry writes). And I absolutely loved some of the Easter eggs hidden in it!
Daughter of the Sun is a YA fantasy novel that follows the experiences of Solyana and Pallah, 2 young women who are trying to find their place in Mothmar. It's the first installment in a trilogy. There are elements of magic, friendship, family bonds, and hard choices.
The story is woven so beautifully between different viewpoints and time periods. It flowed, even when I was still figuring out how everything tied together.
The world building in this book was spectacular. I feel that Amanda must have been meticulous in her planning and it shows. Sometimes it can be a struggle to follow along in the beginning of a fantasy series, but I never felt lost in this one.
My favorite character so far is Solyana. She's tough, and courageous, and willing to do hard things. We're given a chance to learn much about the main characters, but I don't believe all of their secrets have been revealed yet.
It was a quick read for me and I didn't want it to end. Plus a cliffhanger ending! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series (coming on November 7). (But, I may have gotten an eARC in my email this morning
First off, physically I think it's the prettiest book I've ever owned. I caved in to the hype and bought it strictly because I saw it all over my feed. All I knew was that there were dragons in it. Sometimes I like not reading reviews or summaries, and I'm glad that's what I did this time.
The chemistry between MMC Xaden and FMC Violet is off the charts. I love how he looks out for her but doesn't necessarily coddle her. She is able to grow throughout the book and he doesn't doubt her abilities. I did feel that there was an element lacking as far as the progression of their relationship. Like there was some insight that we didn't get to see.
Originally, I gave this one 5 stars, but ended up going back and changing it to 4. Mostly because it didn't stick with me afterwards like some of my other favorite books.
With that being said, I am looking forward to continuing the series when the next book is released in November.
First off, I love that our main character is a true crime writer. I instantly wished that her website existed for real.
Of course there had to be an ex-cop love interest! I wish that we had gotten to learn more about Michael and his past.
There were also quite a few story lines to follow and I was waiting for it to all come together. About 3/4 of the way through I was getting a little restless and then BOOM everything sped up and I couldn't put it down.
As I neared the end, I found myself wishing it was a series and that I could find out more about all of the backstories that are woven throughout the book. Simone St. James is quickly becoming one of my favorites!

I don't know why I wanted so long to read this one! Emily Henry has a way of establishing an emotional connection for the reader with all of her characters. I loved seeing the sister relationship in this one and felt the high and low emotions right along with them. The dialogue between Nora and Charlie was entertaining and just perfect. I think I fell in love with Charlie right along with Nora.
My only wish was that I could have seen some of the relationship from Charlie's point of view.
Will definitely be adding this one to my favorites list ❤️
This was the first Tessa Bailey book that I've read, and it definitely will not be my last. I was a big fan of the show “Deadliest Catch” back in the day, and this brought me back to that time. I LOVE that this is set in a small fishing town. And I really loved that Brendan is the captain of a crab/fishing boat. If you're looking for a story with a strong alpha male, you will find it here!
Piper has great energy and it's nice to see her real personality shine through as she shows us that she's not afraid of hard work and dealing with hard situations. Her chemistry and sexual tension with Brendan is strong from the get-go. They have some very steamy scenes. And if you're looking for some dirty talk, it's there too!
I give it a solid 4 stars.
I've had this book sitting on my TBR shelf for almost 2 years and finally picked it up. If memory serves me, I picked it out as a BOTM read because it's set in Scotland and that always pulls me in because of my heritage.
Our main characters have depth and unique backgrounds. It was interesting to see the layers unravel. I felt that the author did a good job with representing mental health and PTSD struggles.
There are dual timelines that threw me off a bit when trying to get into the story. It did seem to drag around the middle, but did pick up towards the end.
If you're looking for a book that keeps you guessing, this is it. If you're wanting to go on a slight emotional roller coaster, this one is for you. Small spoiler alert...there is a scene that may be triggering re: sexual assault.
I wanted to love this book, I really did. Ultimately, I am going with just liking it.
This is the first Colleen Hoover book that I've read and I went in not really knowing much about the plot and what her writing is like.
The book starts out intense. And there continues to be such intense scenes that at times I had to walk away from it for a little bit. I think I actually jumped a few times.
I don't think Lowen is very likable. I wanted to scream at some of the decisions that she made and certain ways that she acted. Actually, towards the end I realized that I didn't like any of the main characters. They were all deeply flawed, just in different ways.
The multiple twists in the story left me guessing until the very end.
Overall, I guess I liked it, but didn't love it.
