See allThis is the first Colleen Hoover book that I've read and I went in not really knowing much about the plot and what her writing is like.
The book starts out intense. And there continues to be such intense scenes that at times I had to walk away from it for a little bit. I think I actually jumped a few times.
I don't think Lowen is very likable. I wanted to scream at some of the decisions that she made and certain ways that she acted. Actually, towards the end I realized that I didn't like any of the main characters. They were all deeply flawed, just in different ways.
The multiple twists in the story left me guessing until the very end.
Overall, I guess I liked it, but didn't love it.

I've had this book sitting on my TBR shelf for almost 2 years and finally picked it up. If memory serves me, I picked it out as a BOTM read because it's set in Scotland and that always pulls me in because of my heritage.
Our main characters have depth and unique backgrounds. It was interesting to see the layers unravel. I felt that the author did a good job with representing mental health and PTSD struggles.
There are dual timelines that threw me off a bit when trying to get into the story. It did seem to drag around the middle, but did pick up towards the end.
If you're looking for a book that keeps you guessing, this is it. If you're wanting to go on a slight emotional roller coaster, this one is for you. Small spoiler alert...there is a scene that may be triggering re: sexual assault.
I wanted to love this book, I really did. Ultimately, I am going with just liking it.
This was the first Tessa Bailey book that I've read, and it definitely will not be my last. I was a big fan of the show “Deadliest Catch” back in the day, and this brought me back to that time. I LOVE that this is set in a small fishing town. And I really loved that Brendan is the captain of a crab/fishing boat. If you're looking for a story with a strong alpha male, you will find it here!
Piper has great energy and it's nice to see her real personality shine through as she shows us that she's not afraid of hard work and dealing with hard situations. Her chemistry and sexual tension with Brendan is strong from the get-go. They have some very steamy scenes. And if you're looking for some dirty talk, it's there too!
I give it a solid 4 stars.
I don't know why I wanted so long to read this one! Emily Henry has a way of establishing an emotional connection for the reader with all of her characters. I loved seeing the sister relationship in this one and felt the high and low emotions right along with them. The dialogue between Nora and Charlie was entertaining and just perfect. I think I fell in love with Charlie right along with Nora.
My only wish was that I could have seen some of the relationship from Charlie's point of view.
Will definitely be adding this one to my favorites list ❤️
First off, I love that our main character is a true crime writer. I instantly wished that her website existed for real.
Of course there had to be an ex-cop love interest! I wish that we had gotten to learn more about Michael and his past.
There were also quite a few story lines to follow and I was waiting for it to all come together. About 3/4 of the way through I was getting a little restless and then BOOM everything sped up and I couldn't put it down.
As I neared the end, I found myself wishing it was a series and that I could find out more about all of the backstories that are woven throughout the book. Simone St. James is quickly becoming one of my favorites!
