3.5 stars. Enjoyable, solid mystery read with interesting characters. Describing it as “stunning” may be over-hyping it a bit. Recommend to mystery/thriller fans.
4.5 stars. This book completely sucked me in from page one. The characters were well developed and interesting. The story line, which involves a family “mystery” was unique and compelling and the ending was satisfying. Well written and highly recommended to readers who like literary fiction with an element of mystery.
I loved the premise of this book. The writing was good and the characters were interesting, but the execution of the story was mediocre. I didn't find any real tension building throughout the book and the ending was disappointing. There were so many exciting threads that could have been followed and tied together in the end. Not a bad read, but just not as good as it could have been.
A sweet and fun book about a robot and her adventures on an island. It was interesting to watch AI and nature come together.
Well written and moving memoir from the unique perspective of a physician who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Highly recommend & bring tissues.
Nice meaty read. The characters were interesting and the story was unique and moved along at a good pace. At times in the middle I thought that it may have been a bit too long and found myself anticipating the end. Highly recommend to those who like diving into a good story and don't mind a long novel.
Enjoyable read with interesting characters and setting. From the start of the book I couldn't wait to see how the story ended. Recommended for lovers of historical and literary fiction.
The Nest
3.5 stars. The premise of this book really had me intrigued but the follow through was not as great as I expected. The characters were interesting and the plot moved along well. I just thought that so much more could have been done with the family scenario. Recommend for those who like adult contemporary novels and are willing to keep their expectations in check.
3.5 stars. The premise of this book pulled me in from the beginning and I was excited about the story and seeing what would unfold. I ended up having mixed feelings about the interview/journal method of storytelling as it seemed to make it more difficult to connect with the characters. I also wanted more exploration of the implications of the discoveries in the book and hopefully these will be fleshed out as the series continues. I would recommend this engaging read for people interested in science fiction who don't mind the narrative style or necessarily want lots of character development.
Thanks to Net Galley for a complimentary digital copy of Sleeping Giants.
I thought this one was better than #2. It did feel a bit slow moving at times and some things that I wanted to see happen, didn't. Overall, it was a satisfying mystery and ended well.
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this work of historical fiction. The tension builds throughout and I couldn't wait to get to the ending. The setting and main character were compelling. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a well laid out narrative.
4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this fast paced YA historical fiction novel. The characters were unique and interesting and I learned more about an aspect of WWII that I was not previously familiar with...the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff.
Wow...this book was a twisted and fast-paced story mixing mystery along with suspense. I enjoyed the multiple perspectives and the satisfying ending. This book is very dark and graphic in its depictions of violence. Thus, I recommend it to mystery/suspense readers with caution as it may not be for everyone.
I enjoyed this last installment of the Bill Hodges trilogy. I wasn't fond of the paranormal elements of the story but the characters and wonderful storytelling won me over.
I found this author to be so articulate in communicating his experiences. I can see that my mind has been opened to things that I wasn't aware of previously. It is a book that I will be digesting for a long time. Highly recommend!
Enjoyable, well written book with interesting female characters and a unique setting (Hong Kong).
Enjoyable read that captured the angst of YA relationships with a few twists thrown in for good measure.
I purposefully kept my expectations of this installment low due to the fact that it was written by a new author. I was pleasantly surprised, however, with the similar writing style, unique characters and an interesting, steadily paced story line. I enjoyed the read but did think that the ending could have been a little stronger. I am looking forward to new installments.
4.5 stars. I loved the story, characters and art work. Can't wait to continue the series.
I enjoyed this intricately plotted novel. When I found out that one aspect of the story was factual, I was even more intrigued. I am finding that the series is getting better as I get deeper into it and am looking forward to the next installment.
2.5 stars. I felt like the author was wanting to say something important with this story but I wondered through out the book as if I was “getting it.” Strange read that I couldn't ever really get into.
I enjoyed this book, especially the art. It made me want to go back and read the original story as I got the impression that a lot was left out of this edition because of the format.
