I despise his analogy at the Introduction and reference to it at the end but otherwise it is a very good book for introducing the Sunday liturgy to someone.
A nice commentary on our lives and purpose. A nice compare/contrast of science and religion without being preachy (science can preach).
This should have been a quick read but I needed to spend time with each section, absorbing it so it could change me. I need to go through it again and take some notes. Simple but profound! It's a classic for a reason.
A book everyone should read. In the US, for the sake of understanding specifics of racism. The rest of the world, for the sake of understanding the trails of the African-American and what is shared in other nations.
It's a play about polymorphism before it was widely discussed (not that it's widely discussed now but the fact I know the term). It's somewhat predictable but seeing the role of Gilda performed well would be a treat since she is nuanced.
With many quotes from Obama's own writings, this is a good summary of his works and story. It flows nicer than Dreams of My Father. This edition is only through his inauguration. I liked the photo choices and information given on people involved in the major milestones of his life.
Wow! This was amazing! Well done. It deserved every award and recognition. Those who have banned it are foolish. They are not fit to parent. It's true, banning books is not to protect children, but to protect parents from having difficult discussions with their kids. Perfect for teaching the real experiences of someone who was a POW during WWII.
I really liked this book. It helped doing it in a group program. It had some worksheets and clear steps that'll help me get things done. Plus, a nice, short format that doesn't overwhelm. I feel like I will come back and refer to it as needed.
This book has good visuals. This is very academic. There are many moments of conclusion that may not be so true for everyone's theologies.
I prefer murder mysteries. I didn't realize what this was when I downloaded it for free (or real cheap).
July 3-9, 2017 Got to chapter 4. This was my second try. I bought in 200(2?) and tried reading but couldn't. When in Canada in 2004, I bought a different book on Canadian history which I started a few-plus years ago and just finished. I started this one with some background. This is a book for if you have a strong background and want a refresher. It is well written but still too concise. If an American history book was written like this, I could get through it, barely.
I loved this book. The best combination of history, biography and science I have ever read! I took notes initially but after awhile I was able to ride the story. The details give the facts that are often skipped in a history or science course. The full reality of the destruction is heavy. The science and size are brilliant. The history feeds into the next big phase in history called the Cold War. I understand many other topics because of this book. Also, bonus points for picture sections and diagrams throughout the book!
I liked this book. It is now a bit old but gives a nice history. I felt more could have been said at the end about how we are seen and why these reactions. Yet, overall, this conflict is about what has gone on throughout history and still continues today: power struggles and getting stabilized.
I really liked the summary points of specific beliefs and entities. The theological discussions could at times be tedious but that is what theological writing tends to do. The writing needs to explain something not all will understand. He does use a specific theological language so if a person does not have such a background it could be difficult to read. “Non-Jews” refers to others who at least believe in God or know theological language.
Even with this being an older book (1947), it still is completely useful today. I have other books to read on Judaism that I hope to compare and contrast with this one.
This one took forever to get any real action (halfway) but it was worth it. Also, I like the drawing of the town. The story could have come off too silly but it worked!
This was an easy read with a lot of information and insight. Dated, a bit, yes, but not by too much yet (as I have read it in 2023). It is still something to learn from and utilize.
I liked the books summary of key psychological tenants and practices. The practices were not too many or overwhelming. I did find it too autobiographical and the puns got tedious. As a fellow engineer, I appreciated some of the puns and cartoons but it got old and cumbersome fast.
These books would do fine without the bad, Raymond Chandler spoof sections. I'm thinking of skipping those sections in the future installments. This one did well with twists that didn't feel forced.
This is a to-the-point book. You can read it or not. There is no in-between. You get it or not.
