I enjoyed this book. I have read susskind's work before and he does a pretty good job of providing a simple approach to incredibly complex issues but I think the book does suffer from its simplicity. This isn't to say it should have been more in-depth as that is an arduous task for topics that he covers but I do think it prevents it from being a five star read. I would still highly recommend this book as growth is such an important topic we take for granted
This book is incredible. Not only inspiring but incredible insightful into the uphill climb that incarceration puts on people trying to make a better life
Really enjoyed this book. Paticularly Sabina's character - a representation of the ‘lightness' and ephemerality in a world without eternal return.
“The heaviest of burdens is therefore simultaneously an image of life's most intense fulfillment. The heavier the burden, the closer our lives come to the earth, the more real and truthful they become.”
really loved the discussions on private vs public life. Quite a dense book in terms of ideas so definitely neet to come back to it more but great
“True human goodness, in all its purity and freedom, can come to the fore only when its recipient has no power. Mankind's true moral test, its fundamental test (which lies deeply buried from view), consists of its attitude towards those who are at its mercy: animals.”
One of the best books I have ever read, wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. The attention of detail that characterises Caro's first book in this biography series is incredible. It is clear why LBJ has been his life's work and perhaps one of the greatest studies of power in history. Power is where power goes and whether it was the white stars at college, the NYA, young senate or DNC fundraiser committee, Johnson is a master of welding and using power. 5/5
Really enjoyed this book - great look into finance. Definitely a cautionary tale but could see this being interpreted otherwise
“Those who know don't say and those who say don't know”
Who would've thought a book detailing the buyout of a tobacco and biscuit company would be so hard to put down.
“There are three rules on Wall Street. Never play by the rules. Never tell the truth. Never pay in cash.”
this book gives incredible insight into the world of modern finance and the egos that play into them. More relevant than ever today, can't reccomend this book enough
Andrew Yang is too ahead of his time. Sometimes being early is the same as being wrong. Brilliant book.
One of the best reads of the year. this is the antithesis of 2010's start up culture. Entertaining as can be
Incredibly written. Fascinating story about one of the most interesting and influential tech startups
Short but sweet overview over an incredible scientific mystery we take for granted
Took a bit to get into but arguably a must read - incredibly insightful into how the mongols shaped most aspects of the modern world from the renascence to Nazi military tactics
