Epic as always but exhausting. Not sure when I will pick up the next but feeling as though I have to. Still reeling from the incongruent but vital “old jumbo” line that really cuts to the core.
One of the best books I have ever read, wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. The attention of detail that characterises Caro's first book in this biography series is incredible. It is clear why LBJ has been his life's work and perhaps one of the greatest studies of power in history. Power is where power goes and whether it was the white stars at college, the NYA, young senate or DNC fundraiser committee, Johnson is a master of welding and using power. 5/5
A unique and fascinating portrait of LBJ that is both inspiring and terrifying. What a singular personality and ambition, entwined with incredible impact and indelible scandal.
