This was honestly just pretty slow. I was expecting a little more from it. So much stuff happened at the end and I remember being roughly 3 chapters from the end and thinking – wtf just happened. I don't get it – maybe I'm just stupid but idk how anyone was supposed to have guess that.
I did however really enjoy the character development in this book and will likely pick up the next book in the series just to see what other shenanigans they are up to
3.5 - the main character continuously makes terrible decisions throughout the book – every chapter had me face palming with her stupidity. Ultimately, I kept reading for a rather predictable ending.
I deliberated over the rating for awhile. I've settled on 3⭐ solely because it lead to a good discussion after the fact. Between the lack of character development and the overly used red herrings, this book just didn't hit the mark for me
3.5 ⭐ – honestly if you don't want drama don't read this. Just over here gloating that my life is less complicated
Why can I not get myself to stop reading this series? Not sure but they're light and airy and great for when you don't have a lot of energy to put into a deeper book.
There was so much going on in this book. Not sure it is possible to predict the ending. I'm excited to go into the second book with more of an understanding of what is going on
First of all omg did NOT see the ending coming!! This book had Bly Manor vibes so if you enjoyed that you may like this.
3.5 ⭐
In the same breath this book was simultaneously relatable and unrelatable for me. Lots of naked truth but not as much emotion as I would have hoped for this kind of book.
This is a cozy mystery that takes place in Normal, Kentucky. Let me tell you, there is nothing “normal” about the amount of murders in this small town or the incompetence of the police in their efforts to solve these crimes
I think this is a case of reading a good book at the wrong time. I just did not have the attention span for the lengthy chapters with everything else going on in my life right now. Would consider reading again to see if I will end up liking it more.
This is a very campy but self aware horror. This isn't imo very scary but more in line with a b horror film. Grady Hendrix does an awesome job at this type of novel. Where this one is set apart from other similar stories is that it's just as much a story of friendship as it is anything else. If you like shitty horror films give this one a go
I didn't enjoy this book however I don't know how anyone was supposed to unravel any of that without it being explained to them... Maybe I'm just dumb
So glad I gave this book a chance! I was so disappointed with The Maidens but this was a pleasant surprise. This was a fast read. Not a super obvious ending but if you're paying attention you are given enough clues to figure out what's going on.
The main thing that bothered me throughout the book was how much different aspects reminded me of other mainstream things. It was so similar I couldn't not think “wow, this is like xyz” which really took away from the book. Overall, I really enjoyed the last 1/3 of the book once ideas were more established.
Honestly I would rate this higher but I spent a fair amount of the book confused despite the beautiful writing
I couldn't help but laugh out loud while reading this book. I'm honestly surprised by I liked Skye despite the fact that she is incredibly self centered, however her inner thoughts dialogue was hilarious. Overall a fun read.
4.5 ⭐
The writing was beautiful. I definitely don't understand why Kya and Chase were even a thing, but alas that wasn't the only thing that confused me or the most troublesome for lack of better words.
Idk what the point was about the reveal at the end about AH being Kya. That felt like such a small seemingly insignificant detail it caught me off guard. I had to look back because I totally thought that the poet was someone her mom liked originally and that was why she was relevant
3.5 ⭐ rounded up because I think I would have liked this better if I had read it vs listened to it. I had a really hard time with her decisions at times
I kept getting distracted because I think I've read this before and just forgotten. Don't think I've watched the show since I don't have HBO. I enjoyed it either way
What happened was interesting... The way it was written was not (it is a classic though so I get it). Still feel like I have so many unanswered questions.
