At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone.
Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

Starts stupid. I ended up liking it a lot, but the first few chapters read very self-involved, and are sorta weirdly less well written. But stick with it!
good but really self indulgent. I got tired of the same trail story told in so many ways. I probably have just read too many trail books.... this is one of the better-written ones, but still.
This was a really well written book which I didn't like or maybe I did. I think I tend to agree with much of what Cathy writes here. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/307802529
But in the same breath it was well written and as another reviewer wrote we all deal with grief in our own way.
