Finished! Very fast read, really adored the characters. I did feel rather empty(?) at the end. I thought there would be much more, it finished almost abruptly for me. I even searched if it's part of a series but no :c. It's a solid 3.5 stars. I liked it yes, will I ever think about it again? Probably not and the ending was meh for me soo not a 4 star.
Wow ok- uhh- I just stopped crying :D so I'm a little dizzy, but I am not sure what to say honestly. I might update my review after awhile, but for now I need to go outside lmao and get myself a cake. Cheers
Bob best boy (he's a doggie)
Anyway book was ass, I hated each and one of the characters. I've never read a book with this many unanswered questions??? The only thing keeping me from 1 starring is Bob and THE twist because I personally didn't think of that until it was revealed to me :D
This book made me dive too deep and too real in Michelle Zainer's life. I felt and cried for her at the end of the book. As someone who fortunately has not lost anyone to terminal illnesses, my eyes were opened to how emotionally tiring and beyound devastating it could be. Off to call my mum to tell her how much I love her.
I loved this book! I would have put it to 5* if Emily Henry used quotation marks for texts between mainly Shadi and January, but also the pacing of events happening? It was a little off to me. I also hoped to see more between January and her mother, as well as Gus and his family.
BUT it's a 4.5 star read for sure. I loved the couple and the side characters, not a single actually irritating character which to me was so refreshing! I loved the dynamic between the two also, and their relationship and words that have been said to each other closely reminded me of my relationship with my s.o, which made the quotes hit even harder than usual romance.
Ok well I did not go into this thinking I'd love this book- but I did!! I am not the type to read trilogies, usually just a novel type of girl, but I decided to give this book a try since the premise sounded rly fun and I'm a sucker for those.
I heard some people complain about the mc being lacklustre and having no substance, but I disagree. Yes she didn't have major character growth but I think she has time considering there's a few more books left + she is a teen. Idk about you guys but I wouldn't expect much from a teen (and she already imo provided effort and value into all of the riddles that were in the book).
The characters all were lovable imo and were actually identifiable- I didn't have a single character in the book where I questions ‘wait who is that again?'
Lastly, the four brothers????? MHMHMHMHHMM yes
dragged myself from the very beginning of the book to flip the pages only to unbearably hate it TT
I finished reading the Hawthorne legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and honestly??? I don't get the hate. Like yeah the book was not a 5* read and didn't blow me away, but I enjoyed reading it :D the secrets made sense (I guess lmao) and I felt like I got to see a tiny bit relationship progression between the main characters (khm khm the love triangle).
But a solid 3.5 stars for me. Would have been a 4 but it took me a while to finish it because I just wasn't invested enough oops
Was a bit hard to grasp personally, but Yoon seemed to have managed to capture the silent trauma of war survivors very well and left me pretty empty TT
3 3/4 stars !!
“No matter what difficulties people face, they will always have the strength to overcome them. It just takes heart. And if the chair can change someone's heart, it clearly has its purpose”
did not finish it- it seemed dull and I wasn't sure where it was going and then forgot about it. But it was however interesting to read about trans people and what they go through, as well as all of the technical procedures and keywords that I never knew existed. Also characters themselves were really interesting and not one dimensional
I picked this book up randomly at my local bookstore and didn't think much of it- but boy did that turn around. I personally haven't read many books with such a stylistic narrative perspective. The ending where we got to meet the narrator???? Did not think that it would be that person lmao. I really enjoyed the characters and I am glad they didn't follow the love troupe that I thought Jenkins was going for. Some choices of some characters were questionable but that's what made the characters so fun to follow. Not a 5* since I wish the ending was a bit more elaborative; genuinely was wondering at coming to the end of the book, how the author would finish it in less than 50 pages. But regardless, enjoyable read :D
Didn't expect much tbh, but it was a beautifully written (and translated!) novel. As an international student who is continents apart from both my mum AND my cat, this felt closer to home than usual TT. The pacing was great too and I was fully immersed to the point of reading it in one sitting. Solid 4*
Low-key? Finished this book with satisfaction :D Loved it a lot and thought the set-up for the next book is great. Good start to RF Kuang's books
Cute little novella fr- I usually hate lack of chapters and paragraph formatting, but it fit the perspective of a child really well. Little bro was really ranting to me about me ice sandwich lmao
I love Taylor Jenkins Reid lmao- thought this was overhyped but the hype is fully deserved. Amazing read
4.5!
What a banger. I was putting this off for the longest time waiting for the fall aka dark academia season and it did not disappoint. Though with how sunny and green The Netherlands is rn, maybe a bit too early. Would read it in November time if I could.
BUT THAT ASIDE!!!
I was so invested in the book its crazy. It's one of the books that had no plot but vibes. Or rather, predictable plot, but vibes. As a high school theatre kid, I loved the Shakespeare setting and just reading a book about theatrical acting, while still keeping the with the campus/student setting!!
Literally couldn't stop reading it and just finished it at the local bookstore- strong start to a magical (and I bet heartbreaking) story
4.5!
I am honestly really bummed that I was busy this December and could not swiftly finish this book. But it did finish me :D. Slowly, since I started reading it. This might be one of those books that I wish I could read in a physical copy and annotate. I am not a person who re-reads and especially not the type of person to annotate. But if anyone reading this, is, you'll have a blast reading this novel.
I genuinely never felt such complex feelings about any characters like this group lmao. I hated and loved every one of them and because of that, I don't know how I feel about the ending. I need it to sit in my head for awhile.
Now about comparisons with If we were villains. So similar yet so different. And now that I read both, I don't know which I liked more. Maybe in a few days could answer the question, but for now, all I can say is I thoroughly enjoyed both of them :)
For a first-time reader of Taylor Jenkins Reid books, this novel was pretty good! I had no prior expectations for her writing style, so I went in with a blind eye and was not disappointed. I quite enjoyed her writing style and story telling and am really excited to read some of her more known titles.
The book itself has a rather predictable plot in regards to who the mc would end up with to be honest, but reading through the mc's experience of figuring that out was interesting to read (especially reading through her emotional journey of coping with love and loss)
However I did not like how easy it was for the mc to have the freedom of spending time with both of the love interests; it seemed rather unrealistic especially considering she had only 3 days to spend with Jesse?? I don't really think that that's enough time to find your true self and who you belong with and Sam's entire attitude seemed so artificial. The fact that he was the one to call it off and ask her to not call him cause he needs to be prepared, only for it to go the way the mc wanted and Sam wanting to fight for her??? It just amazes me how easy it was for her but good for her lmao
This was a very light read and it was nice to get introduced to Italy alongside the mc (as I myself only have visited Milan for a day). I did enjoy the book but I hoped for more romance, where instead we got more of the ‘mystery' genre (which in itself is not bad, but not what I was looking for). The mystery itself was not bad, but could have been much better, especially in the 2nd half where the ending felt a bit rushed. I wish we read more about ‘X', cause he felt like a vague plot device for Howard's and mc's relationship.
Also the love triangle between the 3 characters felt extremely under-developed and that is primarily why my rating is lower.
3.5!
I enjoyed the book, the first half was certainly better than the second. I started skimming a bit at the end, but it was still fun and the plot was more captivating than I initially guessed from the typical tropes and premise :>
