Falling for June by Ryan Winfield was amazing. It made me laugh and cry I felt so many other emotional. I was immersed by the story and I couldn't put it down. The love story was so beautiful and also seemed realistic to me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a fantastic love story. This book is a book you will want to read again and again.
Loved this book. It is completely different than Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I really enjoyed all of the poems and songs integrated into the story. I also like that the story went from reality, to an alternative reality than completely onto a different world. This is unique to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland where Alice went from reality straight to Wonderland. I also like the dynamic characters in Through the Looking Glass. I highly recommend this book to children and adults alike.
Reading this book was like being in an eerie, sad but yet wonderful dream. The content of The Lovely Bones was very sad and I don't think I smiled at all while reading the book. Alice Sebold was able to create vivid pictures of the scenes she wrote. Most of the time when I read books I seem them in my head as if they were movies, but with The Lovely Bones this was not the case. When reading this book I felt like I was seeing the book in my head as different photographs and snapshots of the events. Overall, I recommend this book to those who like books with more of a surreal read and want the story to keep you on the edge of your seat.
I did enjoy this book and I want to read the next book in the series. As a teenager I had read all of the other The Diary of a Teenage Girl books and they really changed my life. Now at the age of 23, this book did not have the same affect on me as I believe it would have if I would have read it at age 14-16. Overall, I would recommend this book, I just wish I would have connected with the book more.
This book was sooo good. Some people had said the book wasn't but I am so glad that I read it. There are many things I liked about this book. The first is that the beginning of it started out with a gripping and suspenseful scene. I would not have guessed what the characters journeys would become like. Another thing that I loved is how each of the characters are different and they bring their own spin to the story. Overall, I really did enjoy this book and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
(Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book!)
I have never highlighted so many paragraphs in a book in a long time. Cupid is a Procrastinator by Kate Hurley is a fantastic book. This book is on the topic of being single. I have read a number of books regarding the topic of dating and purity, but none of them have affected me the way in which this book has. Kate does a wonderful job at describing her life as a single woman and how that has affected her daily life. She also makes comparisons on what it may be like to be single in the world and to be single as a Christian. She also discusses the ways being single can be a good thing, but also the way in which single people can struggle. There are many, many parts of this book that I enjoy, but my favorites are the way in which Kate incorporates Bible passages. I know sometimes when I read the Bible, it is difficult for me to relate to some of the passages because the people in the Bible lived in a different time period than I do. Sometime I forget that they struggled with the same issues that people in the world are facing today. One of those struggles in loneliness, whether it's because a couple can't have kids or someone feels alone because of being different than others. No matter what the situation is Kate was able to make it relatable to the current 21st century. At the end of the book, this is not a spoiler, Kate writes how no matter what we are going through in this world our ultimate hope, peace and joy will be in heaven when we meet the Lord face to face and we can worship His name for forever. This book has changed my life for the better and it gave me a different perspective of my life of being a single woman in this time of my life. I highly recommend this book to any single person and it is a great reminder that our ultimate comfort and love is in God.
I have seen the Wizard of Oz classic movie starring Judy Garland a number of times. Although it is not one of my favorite movies I do consider it a work of art, with its unique use of sepia tone and also color all presented in the movie. Now finally reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum in my opinion the book is better than the movie. With many classic fairytales the original book is usually a lot dark and harsher than a modern adaptation of the movie. To not spoil anything in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the book has more darker elements. Which for a children's book I was a little shocked to read. Along with this we are given the back stories of the tin man, the scarecrow, the lion and the wizard of oz. I do wish that some of these sections would have been left in the movie adaption. Along with this, the book also explores more sections of Oz that are not displayed in the movie. I do understand that with a movie written for a bigger commercial use, there are time limits as with a book there really are not any limitations. Overall, I'm happy to have seen the movie first because I think if I would have read the book first my expectations of the movie would have been higher. I also liked that the book was different than the movie, because when reading the book, I didn't picture the movie version in my head. I would definitely recommend the book to anyone who has or hasn't watched the movie. There are also about twelve or thirteen more books in this series which talk more about Oz and the people who live there.
This book was really sad and it was my first time reading it. I have heard of The Ugly Duckling before, but never read the original version by Hans Christian Andersen. The most heartbreaking thing about this book was that the duck was treated, so poorly because he looking different. In today's society sometimes we are told that we must all look the same and those who are different than the crowd are seen as outcasts.
This book reflects on how in society people are different don't have as many opportunities and can be more saddened and depressed. This version of The Ugly Duckling has very pretty illustrations. This illustrations though do not really convey the true sadness that this book is. When reading this book I already knew the main plot of the story, so I knew what was going to happen at the end. What I did not expect what that 80% or more of this story was sad.
I have heard that stories by Hans Christian Anderson, The Grimm Brothers, etc... we written to teach lessons to children. Unlike the stories in our 21st century where some stories are to entertain us, some are written to teach lessons, and others are a mixer of both.
l would say the lesson of this story is to not be mean to those who are different than you. We are all different and God created us that way. Each one of us has different strengths, weaknesses, good habits and bad habits. Through all of these differences and many more we should try and get along by seeing our similarities, but still understand and embrace our differences.
Overall I would recommend this book because even though it sad the book still gives a great moral lesson.
This is a review for Knitting by Anne Bartlett. When I first began this novel I was really excited about it. The premise and plot seemed really interesting. I am currently learning how to knit, but I have been crocheting for about five years, so a book in which its mainly theme is all about knitting and the fabric arts in general was very intriguing. I gave this book four out of five stars because all though storyline and the characters were fascinating to read, the book didn't really pick up pace until I was about halfway into reading it. Once I reached this halfway point the story really kicked into high gear and I couldn't put the book down.
In Knitting by Anne Bartlett we have two main characters who are Martha and Sandra. Martha is a middle aged woman who knits and creates these magnificent pieces of artwork. Sandra is a middle aged woman who is a widow and who is a professor at a local college. I am not use to reading many books that have two women as the main characters. For me at least this created a unique perspective in a book that I have not read in many other books, so far. The two main characters are beautifully written. Anne Bartlett has written these two women who are complete polar opposites. Not only in just the way they dress, but in the way they talk and how they interact with others. The way these characters both meet in the very beginning of the book is in a very ordinary way and I like that. Martha, Sandra and the other characters all go through the daily struggles of life. Some of these struggles are internal and some of these struggles are external.
Knitting is a book about ordinary life. It is a novel about how our choices, emotions and actions cannot only affect others, but they can also affect us. The choices, emotions and actions can impact our present and our future. This book also discusses the characters past and I am not giving away anything here by saying the pasts of Martha and Sandra affected their current lives. I think this book discusses something which has been said many times before. We can't change the past no matter how much we want to. We all have had regrets in our lives, but even though we can't change our past our choices today can help to impact our future. We can think about what we say and what we do. We can ask questions like, is the way I react to a particular situation necessary? Can I help someone today by giving them an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on?
Overall, I am recommending this book. Knitting by Anne Bartlett although it is a very slow paced book in the beginning, the book really picks up towards about the middle section. This book is a relaxing read, one in which the reader gets to know the characters in depth. The reader may also learn something about themselves in the process of reading this book.
My words cannot describe how I feel about this book, but I will try my best to put my feelings into words. This book is one of Karen Kingsbury's best books and I love all of her books. I want to start with the characters. All of the characters were so unique and different. They all had a different personal relationship with God. I really cared about all of the characters and I wanted to see what would happen to them next. I also loved that this book gave a lot of hope when there may be times of trouble. This book truly showed that God is ALWAYS with you even in the midst of pain and also in the times of joy. I also enjoyed the setting in the book and how it brought in all different walks of life. God created us all unique and in His image and this book helps to show that. We can all help to spread the love of God to the world. No matter where we have gone and no matter where we are God is always with us. Another part of this book that I enjoyed is the pacing. Karen Kingsbury did a fantasy job at mixing in moments of light hearted fun as well as moments of suspense. She was able to really bring in reader into the book and the reader can visualize what is happening. I can't wait for the third book in the Angels Walking series to be released! This is definitely a life changing book.
I received this eBook to write an honest review. I really enjoyed that the romance in the book that was woven really well with many aspects of Christianity. I feel that the use of Scripture was used pretty well and could helped bring a different perspective on the story. The one critique I have of this novel is that I feel that the story did not really pick up until about halfway through the novel. Once I reached that point in the novel I could not wait to find out what would happen next. I am hoping that the author writes a second novel to the book.
I really enjoyed this devotional. There were great personal stories by the author that was mixed with Biblical stories. I also like that she gave the reader questions to go back and reflect on in the reading. This is a simple, but wonderful devotional that helps the reader to reflect on Biblical passages, but also their own life.
Fifteen Minutes is a splendid novel by New York Times Bestselling Author Karen Kingsbury. This novel tells the story of Zack and Reese and the “cost” of fame. This novel has a great story line that is very relevant to today's society. Many shows that help musicians get famous such as American Idol and The Voice make the life of a celebrity seem wonderful and very inviting. What I feel Karen Kingsbury does well is show the side of fame that is not seen on camera.
When reading the book I felt that their was a lot of suspense which really propelled the story until the very end. The suspense was not only seen through the main plot, but also within the multiple subplots. I really enjoyed this novel in the fact that it has truly changed me in that I have seen into a very small window of what celebrities go through. Sometimes, I think America idolizes celebrities and we think that life for them is this wonderful spiral of great events. In reality though the life of a celebrity has many ups and downs from going to parties to maybe feeling alone.
The main message in the novel, I feel is that no matter what happens in life God is always their to pick you up and restore you as new. Believing in Jesus Christ can change anyone's life, even your's. No matter where you have come from or what you have done Jesus Christ can make you white as snow and “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:11-12). These two verses show that no matter what you have done you are loved. God loves you so much that He sent His son Jesus Christ down to earth to save you and nothing in this world can separate you from His love. Believing in God is the greatest thing that can ever happen in your life!
This book was received by Goodreads First Reads. The novel by Ryan Winfield is a wonderful adult romantic novel. I loved the way in which Ryan Winfield created a great female main character. The title Jane's Melody is very important to the overall plot of this novel. From the very first sentence of Jane's Melody the reader is instantly intriguing to the reader and they mystery of the story begins to come forward and also the answers to many questions presented between its pages.
Jane's Melody is definitely page turner as the reader wants to find our what is going to happen next. Even though this novel does have a number of sex scenes, they do not really take away from the novel. The relationship between the two main characters really created a way in which the reader wants to know what happens to them.
In conclusion, this novel, Jane's Melody has a great ending. There are times when the reader may laugh, be in awe and even cry through all of the events that happen throughout this novel. Overall, this is a great novel for any adult who likes to read not only romance, but about the struggles that people go through in life and how those struggles are overcome. Jane's Melody is a wonderful novel and many people should read it.
In The Absence of God written by philosophy professor Dr. Cleary in 2012 was a very intriguing novel. The novel discussed many different philosophical concepts in two different ways: first through conversations and secondly through the actions of the characters. These philosophical concepts are discussed throughout a lot of dialogue and through many social situations, such as romantic relationships, friendships and crimes.
As the reader, one can see the consequences that these worldviews present and also how worldviews can shift and change depending on the outcome of certain decisions that are made. Even though this novel did deal with some very dark and gruesome crimes, there were also some good philosophical concepts that are brought up and discussed. This is a great book to read if a person is into philosophical concepts and ideas and it is a way to think things differently whether one is a Christian or not.
My reason for giving this book three out of five stars was mainly because of the pacing issues. There were parts of the novel that were fast paced and I could not put the book down. There were other sections of the novel that truly seemed to drag on and I just wanted to get to a more exciting section of the novel. The novel could have been a lot shorter maybe by 100 pages or so, so that a lot of the information could be condensed and they there could be more action and a lot less dialogue. Even though I give this book three out of five stars it is still a good book and recommend it for any reader who enjoys philosophy, people who think deeply about concepts and readers who wonder about how certain decisions affect one's life.
