I would be really interested in a second book to develop this story better. The world building and plot was great, although some of the characters were just so stereotypical.
I expected this to be extremely creepy and unsettling and it was...for the last 50 pages. The rest of the book merely hinted at how weird Rosa was, but it was generally way too slow paced and I saw one of the “big twists” coming a long way before it happened. I did enjoy the characters though and how real they all seemed. It was a really diverse cast.
Wow! I think this was refreshing. I loved Kate and her snarky attitude. She isn't described as the gorgeous, perfect protagonist who can do no wrong. She makes mistakes and she admits to them. She has scars, she gets down and dirty, and she doesn't care how hot she looks. Romance wasn't a main part of the book, in fact I think it was barely there. I think most of the characters were portrayed well and were individuals. Definitely reading the next book!
I've felt the urge to reread this series once again and no matter how many times I read Harry Potter, I always find myself wrapped up in the storytelling and the world. The earlier books are a bit juvenile but it makes sense considering Harry and gang are 11. Still an enjoyable book.
This book was wonderful and magical. The characters were great. They felt so unique and you could tell why they did what they did!
It took me a while to finish this. I found it really uninteresting until the last 100 pages or so.
Truthwitch seemed captivating and interesting from the book summary, but it didn't pan out as I had hoped. I found Safi kind of unbearable, but I did enjoy Iseult and her story line. Aeduan was also an interesting character and I enjoyed reading his -tiny- portions of the book. I didn't find Safiya's power all that powerful. Really, she can sense the truth. That's it...I can see how that is powerful to leaders like the Empress, but it just fell flat for me. I will read the next installment just because the ending left me wondering what would happen next.
I have loved every bit of this series from the start. Marie Rutkoski has woven a tale so mesmerizing and captivating that I could not put this book down once I picked it up.
Kestrel made me hold me breath at every turn. You could feel the anguish, the hurt and the wicked intelligence in her and it made me anticipate her every move. She is one of my favorite main characters. This series has grown a lot from the very light feel of the first book and it has picked up pace, and with it, grabs your feelings and takes them for a pretty brutal spin. Honestly, I was afraid someone I loved dearly was going to die in every battle scene. The writing was both heart wrenching and left me with dread at the same time.
This was an amazing finale. Kestrel, Arin, Roshar. They all show you how you can put away your anger, your vengeance, for something better.
This was a very good book but I got a bit tired of Darrow some way through. It just didn't seem genuine when he anguished over Eo and I found it kind of insulting when he'd think of her ALL the time while with Mustang. It was hard to connect to how he felt because to me...it just felt like he was playing a game.
I was happy to see Sevro and the Howlers back!
This. Book. THIS BOOK.
Everything about this book was amazing. Every character jumped out of the pages and you could feel the emotions behind them. You know why they act certain ways or do certain things. New characters are introduced but more importantly, the characters we love have grown and changed. That is what I love about this book; the events DO break some of the characters and we can see that in this book. Chaol was a hot mess at the start of this book. I pitied him but at the same time I wanted to yell at him to wake up!!
My favorite character has to be Manon. She's amazingly cruel but you can see her battling her ‘duty' constantly throughout the book when she helps Elide and then our lovely gang. Honestly, I like all of the characters. I didn't like Rowan very much in the last book, but wow did he change my mind this time around. I can't wait for the next installment.
Wow....This was so incredibly amazing and I cried and laughed and cried some more. I cannot wait for the last book. This book went above and beyond the first book, and I always disliked Tamlin. I just hope Feyre won't have to endure him much longer :<
I actually enjoyed the premises of this book even though I came into it doubting how fun it would be. Don't get me wrong, I found some parts of the book incredibly annoying; Layla (protagonist) seems to not know how attractive she is and every guy in the book seems to have feelings for her, and love triangles are not my favorite thing. But I loved Roth, even though sometimes his behavior bordered on way too intense sometimes. I get the whole bad boy thing, but a lot of the time he was touching her or saying lewd stuff which I don't think would go too well in real life.
It was an entertaining read with all of its faults and something I'd continue.
While Cassie's parts were painstakingly boring, I loved the new POV of Ringer and even little Poundcake. I was starting to hate Cassie's obsession with Evan but you come to realize it's a great plot tool to explain why love is such an important emotion in this book. Ringer was by far my favorite character in this book, followed by Poundcake and then Ben. I can't seem to grasp the Cassie-Evan relationship, honestly. I like them much better than Cassie-Ben, but meh.
The pacing of the story and suspense were great, especially those last couple of heart pounding and heart breaking pages.
Started off incredibly slow....like, didn't get interesting until 60% through but then BAM! It was fast paced from there and a few interesting characters were added. Made the first 60% of the book worthwhile. I found Tamlin too boring for my taste, so perhaps that's why the last hundred pages was just so much better to me. Rhysand though...:D
Holy, this was bad...I put it down at page 400. I just couldn't do it anymore. The characters were incredibly one dimensional and it was painfully cheesy. A lot of people tell me Sherrilyn Kenyon is an amazing author but I just didn't see it in this book.
I liked this. It was an easy read but I usually prefer more plot line in my books...Bones is what made this a 3 star rating. Cat was kind of annoying as a protagonist: she's 22 but seemed extremely immature. It took over two thirds of the book for her to get over all of her vampire hating monologues and see how hypocritical she was being. And her mother seems like an awful caricature of a character...Cat tried too hard to be a snarky lead like Kat Daniels, and it didn't work as well for her. I have heard promising things about this series so I'll read the next book and see if it gets better.
I was tempted to pick this book up after a friend on Goodreads read it, but this was not my style of book. It was a really quick read but I didn't connect with a single character.
