Wow! I think this was refreshing. I loved Kate and her snarky attitude. She isn't described as the gorgeous, perfect protagonist who can do no wrong. She makes mistakes and she admits to them. She has scars, she gets down and dirty, and she doesn't care how hot she looks. Romance wasn't a main part of the book, in fact I think it was barely there. I think most of the characters were portrayed well and were individuals. Definitely reading the next book!
I liked this. It was an easy read but I usually prefer more plot line in my books...Bones is what made this a 3 star rating. Cat was kind of annoying as a protagonist: she's 22 but seemed extremely immature. It took over two thirds of the book for her to get over all of her vampire hating monologues and see how hypocritical she was being. And her mother seems like an awful caricature of a character...Cat tried too hard to be a snarky lead like Kat Daniels, and it didn't work as well for her. I have heard promising things about this series so I'll read the next book and see if it gets better.
This. Book. THIS BOOK.
Everything about this book was amazing. Every character jumped out of the pages and you could feel the emotions behind them. You know why they act certain ways or do certain things. New characters are introduced but more importantly, the characters we love have grown and changed. That is what I love about this book; the events DO break some of the characters and we can see that in this book. Chaol was a hot mess at the start of this book. I pitied him but at the same time I wanted to yell at him to wake up!!
My favorite character has to be Manon. She's amazingly cruel but you can see her battling her ‘duty' constantly throughout the book when she helps Elide and then our lovely gang. Honestly, I like all of the characters. I didn't like Rowan very much in the last book, but wow did he change my mind this time around. I can't wait for the next installment.
I was tempted to pick this book up after a friend on Goodreads read it, but this was not my style of book. It was a really quick read but I didn't connect with a single character.
