Hercule Poirot is always such a comfort read, especially due to Christies superb writing style. I always find my mind wandering to London or another (mostly british) town when reading one of her novels.
4.5 ⭐️
Really cool setting and plottwists I didn't see coming.
The DaVinci Code was just a bit more interesting in the beginning and overall had a better arc of tension.
Also, I preferred the topic and setting of DaVinci Code.
Still a great book though
Christie manages to create this british, crime infested universe in my mind everytime I read a Poirot book and I adore her for it.
Whenever I read a Wheel of Time book, I think: wow, this is the best book so far!
It is no different with the fourth part. I feel like Robert Jordan wanted to create this elaborate fantasy world with deep characters and an intriguing magic and political system. And so far, he is doing a good job.
However, I feel like I have to have read all the books to be able to give a real rating for each single one as it all feels so connected and like one huge story. Concludingly, I would say the books are for people who are ready to commit to reading the whole series, but I don't think it is possible to read them as standalone books.
Frank is the cutest and coolest person in all of the books, daaamn!
Also, Ella and Tyson?? Amazing!
I love the timeline setup of the book and literally everything else!
Couldn't put it down, because the tension between Hannah and Caroline was so palpable throughout the whole book
It is one of my favorite books, as it is a sapphic, real enemies to lovers story that is set in a magical world. I think the fantasy system is intriguing, but it is not very elaborate. The book feels very short, probably because it is mainly set in one place and has very few characters in it, but that makes up its charm.
5 stars ⭐️ because...
...gay
... adult and not teen (which I enjoy as well, but I appreciate more adult stories too)
... NO MISCOMMUNICATION (like in every other god-damn romance novel out there)
... very sweet but also realistic (especially the spicy scenes)
for me personally some parts of the book where definitely 5-star material, like the plot twists that I didn't expect at all!!!
But there were also a lot of scenes that felt kind of boring to me?!
I also struggled with the language a bit as I am not a native English speaker so a lot of the Scottish words/phrases were completely new to me.
I still think it is a great book and I liked how I felt like I know Mungos world and all the side characters
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars
Honestly, I didn't expect much because the plot sounded just like a fun queer read but nothing more.
I guess I was wrong lol
I fell in love with astrid and how she explored her identity, I was surprised by some plottwists (in a romcom??), and I enjoyed the general setting in bright falls.
Also, it well pretty true to tone when it comes to queer sex which was surprising.
The only thing hindering me from giving 5 stars was the immense display of queer folk. Generally, I love how many different sexuality and gender identities were present in this book (literally all of her friends, her sister, the filming crew, even the baker staff). All that was a bit over the top for me tbh.
But still a great read with lovable characters and a feel-good atmosphere :)
