It was nice to see a female villain, but it was like the author couldn’t decide to go all bad or have some good. This wishy-washiness was what held the story back for me. If she’s truly bad then let her be bad, if she’s not then the author either shouldn’t had gone so hard on the terrible acts though out the book or created a better redemption arc. Since neither is chosen, we are left with a mess of character developments.
I will say the smut part of the book was better then the last few along with a better written chemistry between the leads. There is more to like in this book, but the gun scene just reminded me of a similar scene in The Stand. Although with completely different vibes.
It does seem like the author has gotten a bit better with each book. We’ll see.
A solid 3.5 rounded down.
I think I would have liked this better without the attempt to tie in the wizard of oz, however, this is the best book in the series for me so far.
The spice was good. The characters were more likeable than I expected them to be.
I do think I am learning that I don't love my romance and my darkness in the same books. A gang/mafia story or some type of romance, but I don't really find the killing in these types of books... Sexy or entertaining.
I would like with all my heart to give it 5 stars, but I know it's because of the emotion of the moment, the me who was starting to read the book would have hated the ending, my current self couldn't be happier with it. There were times when I just wanted to put the book down and look for something else, since I got bored at times, but I'm glad I didn't, it's not what I expected but I'm satisfied.

3.5* i didnt love these characters as much as the prior books and found the nods to the original to be lacking in comparison as well but still an enjoyable read

Secret agent. Drugs. The unloved sister. Sex.
Good, not great. Great variation from McIntire's other books and, from what I've been told, other romance books/stories, where it's the perfect “Dorothy”-type character who is the main love interest. Evelina is rough and definitely not that type of girl. Nicholas is the good boy who is drawn to the tough girl. It's a good story. I'm not sure why I didn't like this one as much. Hot scenes, good story, and I liked the back-and-forth nature of their relationship (lots of good, playful banter), and I liked that it was a reimagining of a story that isn't just one of the classic fairytales that I've seen too much of.
Overall, good story, just didn't resonate with me as much as McIntire's other works. Really abrupt ending... almost too abrupt.
3,5/5⭐️
Prima verhaal, maar ik moet zeggen dat ik het niet zo boeiend vond...
Verhaallijn was wel logisch en prima, maar dat is het ook wel. De romance is wel erg goed
I really really enjoyed this book. I did enjoy Hooked more (I'm also a huge Captain Hook girl.... who wouldn't be???) I loved the plot and the criminal/undercover FBI moment. Also... THE SPICE?!?!? Phenomenal. Out of this world hot!!!! It kept me wanting more and more. In fact, I was just reading the first chapter to see if I wanted to read it yet and then I was sucked in and on chapter 8 in no time... It is a very quick read because it really just sucks you right in and keeps you on edge of what will happen next. Plus the Wizard of Oz easter eggs are so well done and I loved it.
I was really looking forward to this book but it fell flat. I really liked Nick and Evie as characters but the mob family aspect wasn't for me. And as with Hooked, the ending was so unrealistic for what these characters got up to. I also really didn't like all the poetry in this. I think if I was familiar with it, it may have worked for me. But I found myself skimming over though sections because I just found it annoying they were quoting these seemingly random poems to each other.
Want a book that keeps you up all night?
This may just be it! It's been a while since I've stayed up until 2am to just finish a book because I couldn't put it down. Nick and Eveline are just absolutely wonderful. Their connection can be felt from the beginning and being thrown together in close proximity only enhances that.
The enemies to lovers is strong with this one. Eveline and Nick both hate who each other is, and they hate that they have these feelings towards each other. The hate sex is unreal. And the gun scene
