Я ЛЮБЛЮ ЦЮ СЕРІЮ!!!!!! саме так коротко звучатиме мій відгук хе-хе. та звернемося до більш раціональної моєї частини. я взагалі за 2023 рік дуже полюбила урбан фентезі (реальний світ, іноді навіть наш час, з фентезі елементами в ньому), але не так багато книг цього жанру я б назвала ну прямо улюбленими (крім книг Наталії Матолінець), а тут прямо знайшлося коханнячко.
світобудова. перед тим, як я буду зізнаватися в коханні персонажам, хочу зазначити, що такий “серйозний” аспект тут мені дуже сподобався. цікаво, як автори прописали світ, те, як магія дає певним сім'ям майже необмежену владу. також сподобалось, як магія, влада, статус у світі залежить й від складу сім'ї. це створювало цікаву динаміку, коли навіть останнього виродка могли не викидати з сім'ї, бо він має виняткову магію є Праймом (найвищий рівень мага у цьому світі), а когось залишали без підтримки через невдалий шлюб чи полишених магії дітей. коротко кажучи, дуже крута задумка з світом. а ще мені здається я нарешті зрозуміла, хто ж головний злодій в історії (дякую цитаті про нудьгу).
Невада Фріда Бейлор. моє сонечко, моя піклувальниця, моя правдошукачка. мені дуже подобається її характер, як вона перестала боятися своєї сили, завжди відстоювала власні кордони, вміла давати людям ще один шанс, піклувалася про сім'ю. звісно й за її детективними пригодами було супер цікаво спостерігати, вона себе розумакою виявляла. Невада віддавала всю себе коханим людям, іноді навіть не очікуючи, що вони готові на те саме для неї. сім'я Бейлор взагалі сонечки, їхні різні характери, те, як вони стоять горою один за одного, це просто моє коханнячко. тут я дуже рада, що про інших сестер теж будуть книги.
Коннор Андер Роган. ось, що я назвала б ідеальним прикладом росту персонажа. у першій частині він мені тааак не подобався, ну от типовий мачо, нудний та увесь такий жорсткий і страшний ууу. але з другої частини... ну він став бусічкою. не те, щоб він перестав бути небезпечним чи став супер милим, але його дії (особливо до головної героїні) відкрили його м'якшу сторону. так, він обожнює контроль та завжди досягає своїх цілей будь-яким шляхом, але він прийме відмову Невади, дасть їй боротися, а не заховає у себе в будинку (як дракон, не моє порівняння, це все Невада). його минуле солдата, якого змусили вірити, що він чудова зброя, а у мирному житті йому місця немає, змусило мене замислитися над нашими реаліями. я дуже не хочу, щоб тих, хто повернувся після захисту країни, ігнорували, робили жахливими й не бачили в них всього того добра, що вони зробили. повертаючись до Коннора, мені полюбилася його мовчазна лють, піклування про своїх, ніжність з Невадою, та саркастичність.
трішки про любовну лінію. вони мої!!! ці сонечки були готові пожертвувати собою один заради одного, приймали один одного та допомагали стати кращими. дякую, авторам, що не роздули нікому не потрібної драми в кінці. дуже люблю, що їхнє кохання можна побачити в тому, що вони обрали один одного, а не магію, сильні Доми та статусність. так, можливо, через їхню магічну несумісність у них не народяться діти-Прайми, але я знаю, що ці двоє та їхні діти будуть мати кохання, бо готові боротися за щастя.

In catching up on mini reviews, I realized that I didn't leave a review for this! Ack! Although if you follow my reviews at all, you already knew this was going to be a 5-star read. Everything Ilona Andrews writes is excellent. Mad Rogan is one of my all time favorite characters, but ever since he's become more human overall he's transcended into a character that I can't get enough of. Nevada is fabulous, all of her siblings are fabulous, and this third book is full of all the same banter and snark that I love. There's not a lot to say, except that I love these books. In my eyes, Andrews can do no wrong. I'll just keep devouring everything they put out.

Maybe a bit of a let down after book #2 in the Hidden Legacy series, but still worthwhile for more time spent with kick-ass Nevada Baylor and Connor “Mad Dog” Rogan. I skip the sex scenes and the technical weapons/battle stuff and just focus on the interesting world Ilona Andrews has created in post-apocalyptic Houston. The colorful secondary characters and zingy dialogue are icing on the cake.

Apparently there are between one and many more books to come in the series (depending on the reception for this one). I'd be happy if this was the end, but I'll no doubt read more if they are published.

Except its better. Its more. I just hope that there is another book, or some kind of short story after that epilogue. I need more. This book picks up riiight where White Hot left off, and there is so much happening. The conspiracy, Rogan and Nevada getting used to their relationship, the insane Rynda. Oh, you will just love Rynda. I read this in a bit of a rush, because I was so excited, but there will be a re-read. This book calls for it. We finally find out what Catalina's magic is! It does NOT disappoint. And do I need to tell you how sensual and sexy Rogan is in this book? No, no I do not. He is amazing. Oh Ilona, why do you do this! I love when he is brooding, I love when he is breaking things, I love when he is trying to win arguments, I love him! One of my favorite scenes in the book is when Nevada is at dinner with another truthseeker, and Rogan is watching video, and things around him start breaking when he hears the conversation. It was so funny. I would take off a half star for the epilogue.... but I am hoping that they dont leave me like this. Its like they gave me a bite of really spicy food and nothing to drink. Jerks.
