A good balance of comedy and drama, without being creepy or scary (except in a true-crime type of way, I guess).
The characters had some nice development, although the timeline of all of the events happening in a few days didn't feel accurate.
Fun, witchy, feminist, murder mystery (although I thought the mystery was really obvious).
ugh idk this was fun at the beginning but it got more and more annoying and I just didn't care about anything by the end. Would've been much better without Mila lusting over her dead BFF's brother.
So, I wasn't feeling this book when I first started it. I had the idea that it would be a lame book. But it wasn't. I really liked it!
It has the typical ‘Mean Girl Dies And Comes Back As A Better Person' cliche. But, that was all. Loved the characters, did find out who the killer was halfway through the book.
I'm so sad that I didn't end up liking this one as much as I wanted to. I went in with huge expectations, but kinda kept losing interest. It was actually a bit strange– it grabbed my interest, slowly lost it, then grabbed it again at the end.
I honestly loved the concept. We've got a witch who brings her friend back to life... and two other girls, for 7 days where they need to find their murderer. I was so, so down for this. There wasn't a lot of mystery solving going on.... just jumping to conclusions that may or may not be correct.
The magic was an interesting part and I liked how it actually was real– I mean obviously, she brought 3 girls back from the dead, but what I mean is, I was worried that would be the only spell to work, yet others ended up working too, which I liked.
I did like the characters, pretty much all of them. Mila isn't used to being the person in charge, but somehow manages, while the other three girls were all defined, distinguished, and added to the story. There is even some fat girl rep through Mila who also happens to be Latina.
Don't read this strictly for the mystery, read it for the contemporary aspect of a girl grieving for her friend and through the mystery and her witchcraft they all learn more about themselves, how to let go of judgments, and creating friendships in unlikely places.
This is a fun book with an ending I didn't see coming, amazing characters, great writing, and just enough magic to make things interesting ^_^
