*Read during the pandemic, who the hell knows if anything I say makes sense?True Brit had a lot going for it. It was plotted really well, and had distinctive MCs and memorable secondary characters, including a real stinker of a villain. Plus one of the MCs comes to terms with his newfound bisexuality in a very welcome angst-free way. I just didn't feel the love between the two MCs. Even when they were supposedly enemies, there wasn't a lot of heat, so the evolution - from enemies to fake lovers to forever lovers - didn't resonate strongly. The emotions the men felt for each other were most evident in the actions they took regarding the singing contest/reality show. And maybe I just needed more words instead of deeds. Or maybe the chemistry just wasn't there. I know Con Riley can create MCs whose relationships sizzle; [b:Be My Best Man 35883157 Be My Best Man Con Riley https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1504354200l/35883157.SX50.jpg 57400201] pushed all of my “awww” buttons and was one of my favorite books of the past few months. But this one didn't have as much of an impact. It's very possible that if I read this again in a few months after regaining some sense of “normal” I will have a more positive reaction. So it could definitely be a case of “it's not you, it's me.”
