Did I read this because it was mentioned in The Bodyguard? Yes. Am I happy I took the leap and finally read it? Absolutely.
“It's still light out. Your inner troll must be sleeping.”
Enjoying a book can't happen unless you ugly laugh at it at least two to three times. I can report on the regret of everyone around me that The Unhoneymooners succeeded.
The fake relationship trope is probably my most favourite of all time and it will forever be a hill that I die on. I was so pleased to have that in this book.
The banter between Olive and Ethan was so fun to read and their interactions had me kicking my feet as well as wanting to pick up knitting and purchasing several cars since it was a reminder just how lonely I am.
This book felt very special to me. It's not often you read a book and you can immediately picture a movie adaption of it. With this book, I pictured it and then felt protective because I didn't want this to be ruined in anyway.
It's definitely a comfort read for me and I can't wait to read Christina Lauren's other works.
“You think I'm cute.” “In a gross way.” This makes him smile wider. “Cute in a gross way. Okay.”

I'm not sure I would go on someone else's honeymoon with someone I thought hated me, but Olive and Ethan stuck together in paradise was fantastic. Plenty of bickering, laughable and awkward moments, flirtation, and a pinch of family drama to top it off.
DNF @ 50%. Just no. This one was not it. Didn't like the characters, felt like it wasn't really enemies to lovers. They just flirted with each other from the get go. Just not for me.
I was not obsessed with this. Don't get me wrong, it's good! But I didn't absolutely love it.
I loved the tension and banter but otherwise this book fell flat for me. While it was still a good read, it was very basic.
Ethan was so so back and forth and had so many secrets. It seemed like every time Olive tried to talk to him about something important it was like talking to a brick wall. He wouldn't see the truth even if it slapped him in the face and claimed to love Olive but would just shrug off her concerns.
There was a good amount of character development for Olive which I really enjoyed.
Overall this book did not live up to the hype and I am very sad about that.
“I hated him until I didn't”
This book has all the tropes (almost). Fake dating, enemies to lovers, and only one bed!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Their banter had me smiling. Even though they hate each other, they obviously have good chemistry! It's a fun and easy read. Perfect if you are on a holiday.
I hate to say it but I don't like Olive, I can't point a finger at it but I didn't enjoy reading from her point of view. Also, for someone who hates a guy, she sure can't stop thinking about him. He keeps admiring his body and his face which made me doubt if she really hated him in the first place.
I liked that there are other things going on as well, not just their love story per se. There was drama not just with them, but with the other characters as well.
I read The Layover before this, and they have the same tropes, except for fake dating, and can I just say that I enjoyed them both. Although they sound the same, they are different.
This was my first Christina Lauren book, and it definitely won't be my last. I absolutely loved this book. It has the enemies to lovers trope as well as the fake marriage trope and it was freaking hilarious. I was living for the snarky banter between Olive and Ethan. I literally had a smile plastered on my face the entire time I was reading this, or I was laughing. There was one point I was laughing so hard my husband asked me what was wrong. I can't believe I put off reading this author duo for so long. Now I want to read their entire backlist.
It actually deserved almost 4 stars just for being my favorite theme: fake marriage by convenience or something in these vicinity. Cute and sweet and steamy in all the right places.
Okay oops. Didn't mean to spend the last 5 straight hours reading this entire book. Lol. It was cute. Enemies to lovers tropes are always addictive. The several fading to black scenes hurt my feelings (even though tiktok fully prepared me for them...) Some of the cultural references went over my head as a millennial and not a gen xer, but I still enjoyed the banter. Loved that they settled on death cab. The vacation setting was perfect to go with this gloomy wet Monday morning in LA. I loved In a Holidaze and I really liked this one. I'll have to pick up more books by Christina & Lauren.
I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. I'm so following this author from now on!
I'm really close to my sisters and I also have a huge latin-family lol. I felt so connected with the Olive!
I also loved Ethan.
I cried and laughed so much with this book ♥♥♥

this just makes me want to go to maui on a fake honeymoon with a 6”4 tall dude who i hate.
idealistic fictional scenarios aside, i thought this book was a decent read. Recently, I've been on a contemporary binge and that just makes me appreciate this chaotic, unusual plot even more. After having read so many books in similar settings, this felt a little out of the box and different in the best way possible. The premise and the vacation setting was also refreshing. While other books with a fake-dating, enemies-to-lovers plotline would have me swooning, this one had me laughing out loud.
The banter between Ethan and Olive, the situations they find themselves in, amused me to no end. the couples massage? the scuba diving changing room scene? paintball with a bunch of teens? all of it had me cracking up. Their dynamic feels so natural and spontaneous that you just can't help but smile and try to keep up with their snarky banter.
a few pages into the book and i was sure this was going to be a five star read for me, until you know.. the second half happened.
SETBACKS
the second half of the book was just not for me i guess:( it brought my rating down to 2.5 stars but the ending and the epilogue was kinda cute:) so eh. 3 stars it is shrugs in defence
okay so the things I didn't like:
⇢ the pace inconsistency was extremely disorienting. i don't know if it's just me, but suddenly there was just WAY too much happening. The transition from Ethan and Olive supposedly hating each other to being a thing is TERRIBLY done, to the point where i even checked if my copy of the book might have like a chapter missing.
⇢ they should've called the book the unlucky honeymooners (or the unlucky marriage deception? the unlucky game? not very original i agree)
although the different views about luck was pretty cool, with the number of times they mentioned luck i was just annoyed. sorry not sorry.
⇢ the ami - dane plotline
mixed feelings about this whole thing. it felt very offtrack; and it wasn't because it didn't focus on ethan and olive. I love when subplots and side characters are more developed, so i feel like i would've loved it, if it was done better?
the whole ‘everybody doesn't believe Olive because she's a pessimist' was just not it. It was literally a ‘he said - she said' situation and BOTH Ami AND Ethan pick Dane's side? like they just dismiss everything Olive says??? because she's not the most optimistic person?? um hello?
i was extremely disappointed with Ethan here:( he was definitely in the wrong and i find it weird that Olive is so easily forgiving in the end.
⇢The faux hatred
the reason for all this ‘supposed hatred' is dumb and the fact that they spent two years being snarky to each other without a confrontation is unrealistic.
⇢Rushed ending
After the couple gets back from their fake honeymoon, there are tons of issues the book tries to deal with: finding Olive a dream career (Olive conveniently decides to be truthful and is fired from her job so this can work), changing her pessimistic outlook towards life, giving Ami a satisfying ending, appreciation for her large family, her desire for love. And while i'm guessing the author intended these moments to provide emotional value, none of them standout or hit the mark.
Overall, even though there was a ton of ridiculous stuff happening in the first half, followed with a lot of set up convenience, i did enjoy it. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the later half and the book significantly went downhill for me there.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS SO FUCKING CUTE I'M!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok ok I'm having a LOT of feelings about this, but for starters, the Banter was PERFECT!!!!!!!!! They worked SO WELL together!!!!! And I will admit, one of my All Time FAV troupes is Enemies to Lovers, and this does it SO WELL!!!!!!!!!! And that PLOT TWIST GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was Screaming SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!! Overall, this is SUCH a cute and well written book!!!!!!!!!! I Absolutely ADORED it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was great! It was so entertaining and I really enjoyed the romance.
The one thing I did not appreciate was the slight victim-blaming that took place towards the end of the book. Fortunately this was resolved but I was not a fan of it in the slightest.
