An important collection, but unfortunately just didn't find myself clicking with any of the pieces. This is as far as I got:
Under the Cypress Tree - Fadia Faquir. 2/5.
Amina Jama's Poems. 2/5
Home, to a Man. 2/5.
Examples of Confusion. 3/5
Fire. 2/5
Cutting Someone's Heart Out with a Spoon - Chimene Suleyman. 2/5
Us - Chimene Suleyman. 2.5/5
Sentence - Aliyah Hasinah Holder. 2.5/5.
This was a mess — and I don't even mean it in a bad way; I guess I just couldn't get the point. In this book there's non-fiction, poetry, and what I initially believed was fiction, but now I'm not so sure. In this respect, The Things I Would Tell You is indecisive in a way that didn't agree with me. There are some jewels in here, sure, and I'm happy for having known so many wonderful writers, but personally I need a fixed rhythm to follow.
