The rich man's Into the Wild.

yes, i loved this book. yes, it's probably one of my stephen king's favorites along with it. yes, i love dan torrance and abra stone with all my heart and might.

having said that, jesus christ, this is endless.
i clearly took a long time to finish it; i was very disinterested in reading by the end of last year/january of this year, so when i picked this up last week i was ready to get it over with. and it kept going. and going and going and going. it felt longer than it, and that's saying something.

anyway, that's why it's a 4/5 rather than a 5/5.

é difícil falar sobre machado de assis, sempre tem aquela pressão (de quem? e olha que eu amo o cara né, passei direto pelo trauma que todo mundo parece pegar no ensino médio). quase deixei sem resenha. afinal, nada de bom ou ruim que eu pudesse dizer aqui teria qualquer peso sobre qualquer coisa, tudo já foi dito, então por que tentar?

mas esse reencontro com o alienista foi estranho, por falta de palavra melhor.
mas não é machado; sou eu. tô realmente num momento estranho em que não sinto vontade de ler nada. isso é quase inédito pra mim, que sempre começo o ano com mais ânimo do que o fim do anterior. esse livrinho aqui, que na verdade é um conto, foi minha segunda leitura do ano (e a primeira que fiz inteiramente por prazer, e não por trabalho). quando peguei o kindle e voltei a ler do primeiro capítulo, já meio esquecido dos 17% que li no mês passado (e ainda mais do que li no ensino médio), fiquei quase em êxtase. não posso dizer que li com a mesma desenvoltura de sempre nem com a mesma gana. talvez tenha sido esse o ‘problema'. problema que não existe, andré, três estrelas não é nota ruim. mas a pressão. talvez eu tenha esquecido como faz. de qualquer forma, está lido.

tô romantizando a coisa toda, é claro. eu só fico feliz demais por ter voltado a ler.
eu amo livros e tal.

tl;dr homem dramático não quer dizer com todas as letras que não amou uma releitura d'o alienista, então fica enchendo linguiça e dando desculpa. não desistam dele.

ah! e a edição da antofágica é/está primorosa.
tô cogitando comprar em capa dura, pois merece.

I don't think Ian McEwan is for me.* See, I didn't dislike this novel; I just found it so hard to relate to—anything, really. The situation, the characters, the sex... I don't know. And, again, it's not that I disliked any of that, I just didn't care about it. I didn't feel anything when the fetus tried to kill himself, I couldn't see myself caring if the characters were going to get caught or not. Maybe that's not the point of the book, but what is it, then?

It has a great premise, and the prose is beautiful—it's obvious that McEwan is a talented writer—, but is it enough? I don't know.
