The Red Queen

This was such a disappointment after the previous books in the series.

As others have said, Margaret is such an unlikeable main point of view that it's hard to root for her. That said, the book can't really be blamed for that, however I did find issue with the writing in this one.

I've read many books by Gregory (as I've read most of the books out of chronological order) so I'm used to the way she writes and tells her stories, but in this one I found the time jumps jarring and disconnected, and the general plot very cold and detached.

I really do enjoy this series but this one will not be one I return to.

Going in, I already didn???t like Margaret, but I was hoping this novel would make her seem more sympathetic being ???her side of the story???. It didn't.

I read this book right after the first book in the series “The White Queen”. I really struggled to read this book because it was actually an almost rehashing of the first book, but from a different persons perspective. I found it too boring and repetitive. I finally finished it and will not pick it up again.

She's a strong character and a very difficult one to read. She's pretty insane, like this lady needed medication. However, Philiippa Gregory deserves a lot of praise for this book. At times, I had to put this down and stop reading, I felt like I was entirely too deep into this woman's head. It's strongly written, the character is....unique and it does provide another perspective that might help when reading this series.

It was so strange, listening to this book and knowing that this woman's actions were not far removed from me. For, you see, Margaret Beaufort is my 10 x great grandmother.

This has to be my new favorite from Mrs Gregory. Margaret Beaufort is a lady who historians know little of but what they do know is amazing. With her strong faith she is blinded to the harsh reality of her life. I loved and hated Margaret throughout the entire book.

Geez. I read this book out of order and was pretty confused at the start. It stood on its own okay and was a rather gripping account of the mother of Henry Tudor. She is appallingly unlikable, which I really enjoyed. Seriously, someone should have told this pious shrew that pride is a sin. More's the better when Thomas, Lord Stanley comes into the picture as her incredibly traitorous husband. Good stuff.
