The Master and Margarita

Em geral: bem doido.

O livro começa com uma premissa interessante de brincar um pouco com a antirreligiosidade comunista e faz isso bem, mas só fica mais e mais caótico. Sem uma linha base mais clara a seguir, ele me perdeu um pouco no segundo terço. Ações não têm origens ou objetivos aparentes e os focos mudam o tempo todo, uma atmosfera caótica que faz sentido e poderia funcionar, mas se alonga bastante, na minha opinião, a ponto de se perder.

A segunda metade do livro é bem diferente em alguns aspectos e acaba seguindo alguns personagens por um caminho narrativo mais compreensível, acho que foi o que me fez terminar de ler com mais gosto. Além disso tudo, Bulgakov faz uma coisa que gostei muito em alguns momentos, que é criar uma imagem de início incompreensível pra só depois explicar o que de fato está acontecendo. Achei que isso dá um efeito mágico muito legal a situações por vezes banais. Ele também passa muito bem a atmosfera caótica e intimidante da russia stalinista até onde sei.

Enfim, acabei gostando muito de alguns detalhes e achando outros meio decepcionantes, mas também sinto que poderia ter apreciado melhor se tivesse alguns conhecimentos complementares sobre Fausto e sociopolítica russa por exemplo.

I started with a paperback edition of this book. I attend a monthly silent book club, where everyone reads whatever they want and can discuss after if they wish.
I knew this would be the best place to start this book, since it would be quiet and would make me focus. I had read a review that this book was going to be funny in a sarcastic way, and is a “classic”.
Well, I never read the funny, and it was so boring, I couldn't even focus in the silence. I barely read a handful of pages in an hour. I decided to get the audiobook. I thought maybe it would be easier to listen than read the story. It was not.
It has been a long time since I didn't finish a book. I don't understand what makes a book a classic. I really don't know anyone who has read this book, and I definitely wouldn't recommend.
