Oikein kelpo trilleri, Ruth Ware on aika luotettava tekijä jo eikä mikään yhden hitin ihme.
It in fact did not get better and the baby was a minor nuisance of a plot point
3.5 stars
the foreshadowing was about as subtle as a brick to the face, but i didn't predict everything that happened. the resolution was a little “rocks fall, everyone dies” (not everyone actually dies). but the overall vibes were excellent and i liked the main characters. so, half good, half not-so-good. it's alright.
It Always Comes out in the Wash
I am off to a really good start this year go me in 2022. It's been 21 days and I haven't bought a book yet and for me that is progress. The Lying Game was one of the two books given to me by my secret Santa from my online book club. What I love about The Lying Game is that it's an evocative and page-turning novel that will leave an imprint on the psyche of those who read it. I finished it a few days ago and the story still stays with you. Lying to protect those you love? Or telling the truth and ultimately hurting those who need you the most? Ruth Ware does a phenomenal job at slowly bringing her readers into the story and then smacking them with the cold hard truth. She has a way of making dark characters very likable and keeping the reader engaged from start to finish. This is a great book. It's a bit dark, and the setting sets the mood up for this perfectly. It's a bit sad- finally understanding what was really going on is sure to turn the coldest hearts soft. And it's an overall powerful read. I have read three books by Ms. Ware and I have to say this one kept me the most engaged. Overall, a very solid four stars. I know that you are going to say that this review doesn't say much about the story and you would be correct I didn't. I will however say that this story tests the bonds of friendship beautifully and is worth every minute I spent reading it.
I found the main plot point to be pretty weak and I could not stand the main character. I struggled to make it about 75% of the way through the book, before I just couldn't take it any more and gave up. And I have manage to finish a lot of bad books, but I just couldn't do it with this one.
I was bored out of my mind. There were no interesting characters, the plot was almost nonexistent, and the dialogue and narration felt very repetitive.
This is my 3rd Reese's Book Club book I've read in a row and this mystery was great. Nice location, great characters and good ending! David N.
Juvenil ou mórbido, unilateral ou medieval, obcecado ou ingênuo? Não sei que leitor nem que ponto de vista faz sentido pra amar esse livro.
This book was really just not good. Very predictable. Very stereotypical. Not good psych thrills. Disappointed that every book I have read by Ruth Ware seems to go downhill. I'm sad about it and glad that this book was over in the end.
In my second time through this, all the issues just rose to the top for me. What I bypassed in the first read were too much to maintain the 3 stars I had given it. The plot and twists were so obvious and her repetition of certain words and phrases began to make me feel crazy , “throat,” “heart,” “lamplight.” I still like Ware, just not this time.
This was between the Woman in Cabin 10 and In the Dark, Dark Wood or whatever that one was called. I found all the characters less annoying than usual, but all I kept thinking was WHY DO YOU KEEP TAKING THE BABY EVERYWHERE?! You think it's a dangerous place, the people are dangerous, you can't trust anyone but hey, let's bring this baby along. It just bugged me.
I enjoyed the story and the characters; it was compelling enough to keep me up late. As a mystery, though, it was pretty weak, especially compared to Woman in Cabin 10.
I was very excited to dig into this mystery and was hoping for lots of twists and turns with such a promising title and premise. Meh...it ended up being just okay. It was a fast read and held my interest but the characters were one dimensional and the story wasn't as dark and twisty as I had hoped. Mystery lovers with expectations in check may want to give it a try.
