An amazing book to read! I have a special connection to this book, as it was the book my dad used to read me when I was sick. I see why he liked it so much now.
My favorite part is his writing style, he writes like it's a campfire tale, and that is by far the easiest to get sucked into.
Ok. I'm ready for part one of The Hobbit after a reread. I think I'll listen to an audio version (maybe the abridged reading by Nicol Williamson) to get ready for part two and I guess that leaves the Bass & Rankin animated film to prep for part three. Any other suggestions?
Finished reading it to the girls — seemed to be enjoyed by all, even the 6yo, although the 9yo gave it a pretty stiff 4 stars. I blame the current state of children's media.
But they both want to keep going with Fellowship so I can't complain. We'll see how long that holds up though.

I have lost track of the number of times I've read this.
It's as good today as it was on first reading as a sixth grader many years ago.
Uma fábula bem divertida e fluida de ler com uma história que capta sua atenção e faz você se interessar por aquele universo.
For being nearly a decade old, The Hobbit has aged very well, it's probably one of the biggest inspirations for the hero's journey. I'm very familiar with the Lord of the Rings movies, but that's it. I also listened to Andy Serkis's narration which, honestly is THE way to read this. He's not just a narrator, he's a voice actor, and every single character in this novel has their own unique voice. This was a fun novel, and I can't wait to read the Lord of the Rings books.
Still love this book. Adventure and humor and friendship. And of course, a hole in the ground.
Not a big fan of reading fiction novels but wanted to give this series a try because of all the hype around the movies. This book was a good read and introduced me to the LOTR universe and I would've probably enjoyed it more if I were younger lol. My fav character so far is definitely Bilbo. With all the buildup to the dragon fight, the way it died was anti climatic lol.
Lovely descriptions of nature in an adventure. Cool creatures, a simple plot and a simple conflict. A very pleasant read. Self-contained which I for some reason did not expect.
The main character passes out during some battles, but he is not a fighter and they get discussed later so I dont mind. The latter half of the book did not peak my interest as much as the start, I guess I dont like the epic proportion stuff personally. It seems that the goblins in this book are inherently bad which is a bit concerning, and in general I just don't like the concept of that (Maybe I will develop more thoughts on this as I read more fantasy)
I loved this book, and hope to read more fantasy, also I really want to start Lord of the rings now. The lord of the eagles
This book is improved by reread due to the brilliant audio performance of Andy Serkis. Complete top tier audiobook. This book is much funnier to me when it's being read to me. Also the songs, jiminy cricket the songs, they were good! I have spent my entire life skipping songs in books but low and behold they were great this time.
SMAAAAAAAAAAUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
JRRT is, of course, great and the world of Middle Earth is a pleasure to visit.
That said, I feel that the children's book style of narration is not something I can enjoy when reading for my pleasure and not for my kids. Some parts aimed at younger reader felt a bit tedious for me.
Still, I look forward to reading this book with my kids when they grow up a notch.
the world built by Tolkien is amazing I loved every part of it about the book well I love the whole concept the characters were amazing and the moment the present us the dragon was perfect my only complain (spoiler)the dragon wasn't the final enemy and I was so interested about the Dragon but how the dragon get killed was too simple for me I needed more of a real deal with the dragon but noooo just a simple arrow kill him you have to be kidding me we wait the hole book for the dragon to appear and when it appear it is awesome you feel the tension of the characters but just an arrow throw all of that out of the window so Not really happy with that
After the dragon's death I didn't felt big interested for the final battle a character die and we just got a few lines to know what happens so it doesn't have the impact that the character deserved the end I liked it it was like the hobbit finally have rest but almost all the problems after the dragon's death were meaningless
though I need to make very clear I would reread this book and that means a lot From all the books I have read(not a lot)I would reread 2 books and this is one of them I don't know I just feel like this is a really comfy book to read maybe in a rainy or snowy day after a hard day of work because a feeling in this book is clear for me being in the comfort zone at the start in the hobbit hole but taking the risk and go to the adventures and after all the hard work finally you get to the hobbit hole and you finally have peace and I think the words of Bilbo are clever than mine so here they are:
“Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.”
Summary: Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, one day finds that he has been volunteered by Gandalf, the famed wizard, to assist a company of 13 dwarves to recover the city and riches that were stolen from their people many years ago by a fierce dragon. Although Bilbo, who is not particularly brave but who has in him some small sense of adventure that is unusual for hobbits, may seem an unlikely hero, his story demonstrates the power of taking the next step when you want to give up, showing courage in the face of fear, and having someone believe in you.
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was SO FUCKING GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be honest here, I grew up on all of the Middle Earth movies, so I've been very hesitant to read the books for so long because I was afraid they would ruin the movies for me, but that's definitely not the case!!!!!!!!! This was so, SO GOOD!!!!!!!!! I LOVE Middle Earth SO MUCH!!!!!!!! And if anything, this only strengthened that love!!!!!!!!!! I loved Bilbo's character arc So So much!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to dive into the next one!!!!!!!!!!!!
