This was so sad! I guess I should have realized it would be due to the title but alas, I did not and now I'm sad.
The titular “The Goodbye Cat” and “Cat Island” are my favorite stories, although all the stories are heart-warming and centered around cats.
If you've read the author's “The Travelling Cat Chronicles,” you'll recognize some of the characters in “Finding Hachi” and “Life is Not Always Kind.” It's nice to get another point of view on those stories.
A few of the stories weren't fleshed out as well as I expected after the carefully-crafted “The Travelling Cat Chronicles.” This little book is still worth a read and will probably lift your spirits.
If you like cats and would like to read some cute (possibly sad) short stories including cats, you may enjoy this. Also, you'll see bits of Nana and his predecessor Hachi (from The Travelling Cat Chronicles) in here.
I have read this twice and love the first couple of chapters completely plus it was great to return to Hachi and Satoru again.
It helped to have a little more of Satoru's backstory.
There was also a supernatural event in one story that was completely perfect in helping progress that story.
Once again it was about human interactions, tragedy, and resolution with the cats being observers.
