I appreciated the interesting characters here and was ultimately drawn in, but it was a bit shallow at times for me with where the story was meandering to or what the depth was.
I loved this story! Yes, I'll admit there are times when it is a little predictable, but the characters, and events are not. Autism, and the true event of 9/11 are written about in a way that brought me to tears. And who doesn't love a unique love story? Read it!
I can't help thinking this would be better as an “own voices” novel, as the author admits she has no personal experience with people on the autism spectrum. Also not thrilled with the rather manipulative 9/11 denouement. But overall a quick, enjoyable romance.
2.5-3 stars. I was looking forward to this book because I'm a big fan of second chance romances but this one left me feeling very meh. There was a lot going on here but I don't want to give anything away so I won't specify what. I just think that a few aspects of this book could have been removed and the scope of the story would still be the same. It alternates between past and present chapters with what seemed like more emphasis on the past. The ending felt very rushed and I would have liked at least a couple more chapters or an epilogue to tie things up nicely. Ho hum.
