The Friday Night Knitting Club

Audiobooked this while knitting a hat. Kept waiting for something to happen. The last quarter of the book was better. Bummer, I thought it would be a series I'd like.

Oh my g-d. I read this as part of my local library's push to challenge yourself to read what you normally wouldn't, and this book convinced me I was wrong to even try. Painfully slow, so saccharine and corny, weak theming and dumb as hell handling of James' and Dakota's Blackness, and they fucking give Georgia cancer and kill her in less than 20 pages.... 
I'm so sick. I read this because it was recommended as a romance about a single parent and that a) isn't true, technically, and b) is... not a good enough reason to sink 400 pages into this. 
I would have to be held at gunpoint to read this or its genre again.
The recipe at the end looked good, I guess.

I wasn't expecting the sadness, but I enjoyed the book. I find I like books with multiple points of view, especially when they're talking about knitting ;)

The story of friendship is always compelling, but these particular characters weren't people I would really went ti know. I suppose they turned out okay and the friends stuck with them until they became okay people. So maybe I'm just a bad friend.
Seriously though, the people aren't great and the ending is more tragic than it needed to be. However it is compelling and emotional, so I'm not sorry I read it, or listened to it.

I'm not a huge chick-lit fan, and ultimately, that's what this was. The characters were fairly superficial, each an archetype of a female cliche, with a Central Theme and not much further expansion. There were romances and friendships, and, well, exactly what I imagine the generic chick-lit book to be. It wasn't bad in any sense, just, okay.

I read it for the knitting, and the nice thing about it being such a superficial read is that I could knit while reading it, which was nice, because it made me crave knitting.

This book was okay. I got it for Christmas and read it because it was around. I think the intended audience for this book was a bit older than my age group, as I couldn't really identify much with a lot of the middle aged characters' issues and lives. Still, it wasn't terrible. The ending surprised me, however!

I hated this book. It was bad, in my opinion.

What I learned from this book?
It has over 150 reviews in Amazon.com - normally novels get like 5-10
It is going to be a movie
It is on the best seller list and the sequel is probably there too. I'm not too interested, as I hated the book.
So what did I learn? In USA you can get anything published and sold. I wish I was an American author ;-)

Kuulemma tekevät tästä filmin. Julia Roberts näyttelee Georgiaa. Tulee “teräsmagnoliat”, “hellyyden ehdoilla” ja “rannat”... Käsikirjoittajat saavat kovan työn. On mahdollista että filmistä tulee hyvin paljon parempi kuin mitä kirja on. Jos ei tule... voi itku!

Tämä kirja on kuulemma best-selleri, mutta luulen, että nimi ja kirjan teema ovat houkuttaneet monet ostamaan kirjan. Amazon.comilla lukemani arvostelut tukevat nimittäin omaa käsitystäni:
