I, too, enjoyed the film BODIES BODIES BODIES. This is just that, but in a library.
I take most adult mystery thrillers with grains of salt. Young Adult (mystery thriller) I'm more fine with. But I'm trying to shop around and see exactly what I'll like and dislike from Adult books. Unfortunately while this looked really good and I was interested at the start it petered out quite fast. I didn't like the deaths, I really didn't like the ending. I could see how it could've been better but unfortunately it didn't go that way.
I liked locked room mysteries, I like it when people are getting picked off one-by-one and anyone could be the killer. This had all three but just threw it all away for an nonsensical ending. And the characters seemed to be interesting all for the first few chapters. Every time I thought I liked one of the characters they did something or said something and we were back to the beginning. The book might've been more interesting and likeable if Davey, the one character, just wasn't there. He was totally my least favourite and thought himself to be the bee's knees. I don't think I even had a favourite, or, the character I disliked the least.
In most Adult mystery/thriller books it's the characters I don't like. Their personalities, how they treat the characters around them and their dialogue. I like unlikeable characters but only if they're written well. They were well-written in here but because I didn't like their personalities at all, it was hard to like their unlikeable personalities. I don't know if that makes much sense.
This book didn't reach my expectations. I felt like I was waiting for the story to get going and it just kinda didn't.
It felt a bit over written and the characters were really uninspiring.
The ending is the only saving grace in this book. I am glad I finished it because the ending was actually worth it. I wonder if it was just above my paygrade and didn't get it but the ending is worth it.
The pace wasn't quite right either. It was a bit slow then a lot going on and then nothing but it felt unfinished. I actually would loved to listen to the audio as maybe something was lost in translation for me

Netgalley read.
That's a lot of words when “Don't do drugs” would suffice.
This might be great for some people but this was not for me, I found all of the characters unlikable. I didn't find the story believable on bit.
No fire alarm that's connected to a fire station or similar in a library with rare books, really?
There were a few turns this could have taken to be interesting but it didn't.
This read a bit like a B-movie to me. I really had difficulty getting into it and the multiple POVs really got challenging after a while. Overall, this one was just okay. The idea of doing drugs to complete an ancient Greek ritual didn't titilate me like the premise of the book made it seem. I found myself bored often and the little bit of action only held my attention for so long before it went back to being bland again.
Thanks NetGalley and Poisoned Pen for this ARC.
