See allThis cookbook is beautiful. I really loved the section on the Mexican Pantry that detailed all the items you may need to complete the recipes within along with a detailed description on those items in the event you're not familiar. I always find this helpful when I'm wanting to cook an ethnic dish.
The recipes themselves are organized by meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc) and the overall layout of the recipes makes them very easy to follow with the steps numbered. Another great feature is the picture that goes along with each dish so you can see what you're planning on making. I also loved the little blurb about each dish below the recipe name.
The notes (or Notas) are amazingly helpful. They either give helpful tips or substitutions in case an ingredient cannot be found which saves on possibly passing up on a dish simply due to lack of ingredients.
Having frequented Mexico over the years, this cookbook really brought me back and allowed me to feel like I was back there and not buried in snow and cold!
I really wanted to love it. The premise sounded so magical and interesting that I couldn't wait to dig in. However, I kept finding myself so confused over what was happening and wasn't sure if it was me or if the story was just making me feel so lost. After chapter 8, I realized that I was lost. I was catching a lot of what was going on, but there is so much fluff in between that it wasn't flowing very well. Conversation between characters was stunted because there was so much inner monologue from Emma that I just didn't like. Also, some information would just pop out of nowhere and I would try to fit it in and just couldn't.
I wanted to love this book. I think with a solid edit that it would benefit greatly and I'd give it a go again if that occurs because the premise sounds so beautiful.
Never has a book totally wrecked me. I felt myself praying along side Peter to give him strength. This book just touched my heart and literally ripped it right out of me. Outstanding!
This book was stunning. I absolutely loved it. I do wish I could find out what happened to the world and why they were caged - but that's my own curiosity
First, thank you to the author for the copy of the book.
