I was a decent book but I guess I expected more from Stephanie after reading Vancouver Sorm series. But this one was her first book so I get that this isn't as good.
The characters were good but there were too many plot holes for me. The fact that they didn't even rehearse their story in case people asked (and they did), the fact that Avery's best friend wasn't even told the fake version, nothing, and only brought it up after the engagement party, I didn't even know that Avery invited her mother until the day of the wedding. Also, did Avery ever get back to her old apartment to get her clothes? Toiletries? Furniture? Books? Laptop? Anything? We don't now. And it's stupid but I'd rather this was in the book haha.
I guess I just wanted something better thought out. The Fake Out, another fake dating book by Stephanie is much better, the story is more cohesive and better thought out. I guess the author learned a thing or two about writing fake dating romance and perhaps wrote some things as she should have in this book.
I didn't like the public engagement. It's a personal ick that I hate, so I wasn't a fan. I also hate when the couple gets engaged and/or married only a couple of days/weeks/months after the beginning of their relationship, I always think that there's no way the relationship can survive. Though I'm glad that the characters had chemistry in this book, otherwise it wasn't gonna fly.
I liked the characters. Emmet and Avery were cool, although sometimes Emmet was too stupid and cocky and impulsive, like the story about how he and Avery got together (Dude, just say you came to the restaurant, flirted, and she agreed to go out with you, there's no need to tell tales about saving lives lol) or him saying he doesn't wanna get married one chapter to proposing a fake marriage in the next one.
BUT he paid attention to what she liked and got her the things she'd love (the engagement ring?? earrings?? amazing).
The spice was fantastic though, I loved it. It worked for them and it was an enjoyable read.
I really liked this book, 1 ⭐️ off cause the second hand embarrassment was reallll
This was so cute and fun to read!
Small town romance, fake dating, enemies to lovers.
Avery dreams of owning the restaurant she manages, but needs someone to co-sign. Emmett wants to run for mayor, but needs to show he's a dependable guy instead of a single bachelor.
The two showcase their new “relationship” and quickly fall for each other despite their best efforts.
Maybe 3.5? This was adorable. But I felt like there was too much missing between them. How did the relationship get to an I love you stage? It was more like they listed after each other when all was said and done.
