I really am sad to see this series end. To be honest I feel like this book left me feeling like this world isn't over, like I should have had another few pages to read that tied everything up. Maybe a chapter that was set five years in the future.
In this the lady lead is front the upper crust of society, a blueblood. She had an amazing talent, healing, but there is a flip side. Heragic also has the potential to do the exact opposite, kill. She can inflict plagues, stop organ function, etc. She enjoys the way it feel to let the dark side of her magic loose. It's addicting and very dangerous for her to use.
The gentleman lead is a member of the Mar family, an Edger from a swamp considered to be of lesser class. He is a man with many emotional scars. When his previous wife walked out on him it almost broke him, years later he still doesn't feel whole.
The two share a common goal, eliminate a ring of slavers. Both have had dealings with them in the past that have left lasting hatred towards them.
I love how the authors slowly build the relationships between their characters starting with friendship first letter, later one of intense love. There is sex, but unlike a lot of paranormal romance it is not the main action in the book. We get some awesome fighting scenes too where the characters throw around some pretty cool magical abilities using it to crush the bad guys.
The world in which the Edge books takes place is brilliant. You get a normal Earth like setting with no magic, the Broken. There is also a place that is geographically mirrored where magic is strong and frequent, the Wierd. Then you have the in-between called The Edge. In the Edge magic is present, but at a lower intensity than Wierd. Each of these places has things that are unique and interesting.
Loved this entire series. Found it perfectly written, unique from anything else. I recommend this highly.
Fantastic.
Not my favorite couple in the series, but I enjoyed the fact that they didn't start out hating each other. It was a nice change.
Also, George and Jack- YAY!!
I'm happy to have read this series, but it will never be my favorite Ilona Andrews' series. I will admit, I now REALLY want to re-read The Innkeeper's Chronicles. 1) to read more Ilona Andrews 2) because I didn't notice before that George and Jack appeared in it, because when I last read about them they were children. I didn't make the connection.... NOW, it feels like The Innkeepers Chronicles is a spin-off?? or at least continuation for those characters and I want more!!!
It will be difficult to resist temptation.
Where do I begin with my love for this book? No matter how many of Ilona Andrews' books I read, I'm always impressed. Their ability to write compelling characters, vast new worlds, and the combination of drama and romance, always knocks me to my knees. This is the fourth, and sadly last, book in The Edge series. I've devoured every single one, but this one is absolutely my favorite. I'm still reeling, friends! So please pardon me if I gush.
Let me start with Charlotte. Andrews is known for her amazing female characters, but Charlotte wins all the prizes in that category. She's just so damn likable! A healer by trade, she has the type of patience that we all only dream of having. However, if you hurt someone she loves or tell her she isn't good enough? Watch out. This woman has a fire that makes her a force to be reckoned with, and the ability to match. No spoilers from me, but I so very much loved her. Charlotte was the perfect mixture of refined and downright bad-ass.
Then there was Richard. Adorably gruff, overly serious, yet devastatingly charming, there could be no person more perfectly suited for Charlotte. Andrews isn't the type to write chauvinistic heroes. The men in these books always walk that line between chivalry and possessiveness. Richard is no exception. His back story, his love for Charlotte, all of it turned him into a character that you just couldn't help but adore. When these two were together, it was something of beauty. I won't lie, I absolutely cried more than once.
As for the story, it was stunning! If there was ever a way to end a series, this is it. All of these books have stolen my heart, but this one in particular was completely amazing. Full of intrigue, backstabbing, romance, and battles. Every single one of my favorite characters made a cameo, and I was in bookish heaven. I loved every single minute of this book. Every single one. I'm sad this series is over, but I truly can't wait to read it all over again.
