The story continues.. another quick fun read. This book again doesn't really stand alone, but very much feels like the middle chunk of a longer book. So rating it on it's own, it's decent; but within the context of the full series, the plot, investigation & murders all move forward in a necessary way.
We finally get to Lana's hometown which feels like the beginning of the end in an exciting way. I continue to love Lana and how badass she is. My only critique is we see Lana get a bit jealous & petty - this may be realistic, but it just seems out of character & beneath someone who's so controlled and focused on the big picture of her revenge.
Once again, jumped immediately into the next book.
Started out really suspenseful but then lulled up until the very end. So not as exciting of a read but it definitely feels like it's building for the next two books. Hopefully it takes back off!
3.5* stars.
Good book. But some situations (e.g., the killing sequences, having sex whenever they meet) are getting repetitive, like literally even the sentences are just rephrased. The house of almost everyone of her victims is without neighbors, which is very repetitive and also convenient for the protagonist.
This book started so well, I was amazed by S. T. Abby's choice to begin it with the POV of a character other than the protagonists (which didn't happen in any of the two previous books). I was really intrigued as well as curious about how things were going to play out, and it didn't disappoint. I loved the conversations Lana and Hadley shared, in which the former explained and justified herself and her actions. I already knew what was driving her, but her talking about it with a person not concerned by the whole thing was really interesting. I liked how Hadley felt torn but decided to support her nevertheless, even though she still managed to stand up when she felt Lana was going too far. Their relationship really kept me engrossed in the story and I can't wait to read the next book.
I read The Risk last year but I decided to reread it before continuing on in the series this year just so things were fresh in my mind when jumping into the second book. Destiny and I had planned to buddy read the entire series as part of our 29 in 29 challenge we are attempting this month but after reading the first book she decided to DNF the series but I continued on with them.
This is a 5 book series and each of the books are less than 200 pages and can easily be read in one sitting. I was instantly hooked after reading book one and very intrigued by the premise. I don't think I've ever read a book where there is a romance between and FBI agent and a serial killer. I really needed to know how this could possibly work out.
From the first book you can tell that something happened to Lana when she was younger. We don't know the full extent but we get a good idea of what it was. It isn't until the 4th and 5th book where we find out the true extent of everything that happened. The author doesn't hold back on the details about what happened so please if you are someone who is easily triggered look into the triggers of this series before picking it up.
As I mentioned this is a romance between an FBI agent and a serial killer. Obviously Logan isn't aware that Lana is the killer he's been looking for. The romance is very insta love. Logan didn't start bothering me until the second book and from there on he did something in each of the books that annoyed me and pissed me off. I was most intrigued by finding out how a romance between a serial killer and an FBI agent could work and lets just say by the end I wasn't disappointed.
You definitely have to suspend disbelief while reading these books but it made for a fun read. Each book ends on a cliffhanger which was so frustrating for someone who hates cliffhangers. The final book was actually my favorite of all 5 books but as a whole the series get a 4 star rating from me.
rating - 5 / 5
Absolutely loved the whole showdown with the Boogeyman and the Hadley bit. Wasn't so sure about Hadley's motives in book 1; but learning about her past and the fact that Lana and her bond over being victims was a really nice plot arc, I didn't really expect.
Honestly, the author does a great job at slowly giving us more layers to the characters. I'm super impressed with the way the plot's flowing and I'm most definitely HOOKED, if not obsessed. The ending in book 3 did not have as much shock factor as the ones in book 1 and 2; but the background is established only so much, that you just HAVE to keep reading. I love that the author divulges details over the course of the book. This keeps us interested and also doesn't feel like too much information at once.
On to book 4 :)
read for stabathon 2022: ghostface and dewey & gale
literally i love this series and i'm on the edge of my seat cause i need to know whats going to happen and THE ROMANCE?! phenomenal
the first half was great but the second one was such a slug and i just skim read most of it. i hate Logans pov bc of how boring it is and the whole fbi investigation. they just repeat the same shit in every book. not a fan of this one and scared it will only get worse

Way to kick the boogey mans butt! Man I really like this series.I have been doing these books as a buddy read with my girls and I think as a whole this is our favorite so far. Lana is getting closer and closer to her end goal and everything leading up to that has me chewing my nails with anticipation. I love Lana. Such a strong avenging angel. Jake and her really did think of everything.I have to say though I do wish we had more Jake moments. The friendship that has formed between her and Hadley is interesting but nice for both of them.I think they both need each other in some twisted way, Her relationship with Logan is getting more intense and I'm dreading what will happen if he ever finds out the truth about her. I can't wait to see how this story continues, the only downfall I have again is I wish they were longer.
