I have had several books by this author on my bookshelf for years now and haven't read any of them until now. Luckily this book ended up being one of the books picked for my August Bookshelf Challenge.
I have been in the mood for cutesy romances lately and this one definitely gave me what I wanted. When I started reading it I had planned to read half of it and then switch over to another book but once I started I couldn't stop reading it. I ended up reading all of it in one sitting.
I flew through this book and while it was predictable I absolutely loved it. I can't believe I waited so long to read a book by this author but you better believe I am going to try to get to the other ones I have on my shelf sooner rather than later.
This is one of those books that I wasn't sure if I was going to like, since I could see where the romance was going, but ended up being hooked and loving it.
So, yeah some of it is very obvious, but the book is so cute and I ended up liking the romance and honestly I just really enjoyed reading it, so 5 stars. Like I said, some of it is super obvious, such as who the mysterious letter writer is and the guitar issue, but there were a few things that surprised me, which was really nice. The main characters were... interesting. Maybe not the most deep ever, but they felt decently realistic. True, there are misunderstandings and tons of drama over boys, but this is a YA contemporary romance, it just goes with the territory.
As usual, I am disappointed in the friendship– Lily's friend was only there for Lily and had no other purpose. It was a bit annoying.
I also like how the book isn't just about getting a boyfriend, but is about courage to do and get what you want. Lily wants to confront Cade, she wants to finish a song, perform it in front of people, and submit it for a contest. She also wants to go on a date with Lucas. She doesn't feel brave enough to do these things and this book is about how she becomes more confident in herself.
This is my second Kasie West book and I must say I'm pretty impressed, I'll definitely check out more by her :)
I really enjoyed this book. It was just what I needed to get me out of my reading slump. It was just a fluffy contemporary with a hate to love romance. The only thing is that I felt like I couldn't relate to the main character as much as I would have liked. This made me bump it down half a star and the other reason I bumped it down another half a star is that it was very predictable. More than most contemporaries I read like this. I just felt like the predictability of this book was on a whole other level. I don't mind predictability at all but this was just too much. Besides that, I felt like a pacing was nice and it did frustrate me a little. But I liked that it was enough to make me want to keep reading but not enough to anger me. So overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend this to anybody who likes these kinds of contemporaries or needs to get out of a reading slump.
Super predictable, cute, fluffy, rom-com fun. Exactly the break my weary mind needed from the real world. Would definitely recommend for others looking for the same type of escape. 3/5
Pertama kali baca karya Kasie West. Ceritanya biasa saja, 3 bintang gk selalu berarti aku gk suka.
Cukup menghibur, walau menurutku gk ada yg terlalu spesial mengenai alurnya. Typical YA contemporary, 2 org gk awalnya saling benci, gk sengaja surat2an, begitu tau siapa orgnya eh ternyata org terakhir di dunia ini yg akan kau tebak sebagai org yg surat2an dgnmu. Parahnya org itu org yg gk kau sukai & mantan pacar sahabatmu...
Akhirnya manis, Lily bisa menulis lagu justru yg berkaitan dgn org yg surat2an dgnnya & akhirnya jd org yg dia sukai.
I know, for a fact, that 14 year old Harisa would've LOVED this. I can also say that 23 year old Harisa also loved this. I am not sure what this says about me, but either way this was cute and adorable and I was disappointed to leave the world this author created when it ended.
I have to say I was quite disappointed because I wanted more. I wanted more of the family and friendship aspect. But I didn't hate this book. It was a cute quick read but I guess my expectations were a bit too high.
