Three years ago, my brother recommended and bought this book for me. I started reading it a year later while on vacation in Greece, but didn't pick it up again until another year after that. Finally, I took it to work and read each day at lunch. It started as an interesting novel, then as the years in the story progressed it piqued my interest. This book took me through a great historical journey of Poland. I am grateful my grandparents were able to leave when they did. Had they not left, they may have perished in the horror of future events. The end of the book left me feeling very emotional.
I was happy, joyous, sad and sorrowful. The story ended in the early 1980's, but I wish I had a book that continues from there to present day. This is a very long book, but well worth the read. Thanks Al!
