Good finish to a good series. This book continues the story of the first two books (and again in epistolary format). As in those books, the pace never lets up; it is literally a case of do-or-die. (Avoid this book, in fact the entire series, if you are bothered by lots of death and violence.)You need to have read to first two books before this one. The story picks up right where [b:Gemina 29236299 Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) Amie Kaufman https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1480097137s/29236299.jpg 44560442] ends. The sassy, hyper-competent teenagers from the first two books are back and a couple more are added in this book. My favorite character continues to be AIDAN.The audiobook is a very well done multi-voiced performance.(Negatives:- The ‘blipping' of curse words was irritating. Why did they do it?- IMHO, the romantic bits are rather mawkish.- The epistolary format began to wear on me after a while. YMMV.)
Third in the series - and it sticks the landing nicely. The action returns to Kerenza and adds two more teens to provide their perspective to the story. Relax - your favorites from the first two books have substantial parts in this tale as well - including Hal AIDAN . I really enjoyed this one - but the first in the series is my hands down favorite. As with the first two, I listened to this one in the car - the production is really well done.
Easy read and great escape from reality- jumping to the future with a love-able group of characters.
Just... wow. So many emotions.
Not my favorite of the three books, but I adore the ending. The formatting of these books is part of the charm for me as well, and I really want to read another book with funky formatting and told through messaging.
This series is on my ‘must buy' list.
Not sure what else to say that hasn't already been said! I will be recommending this series to everyone!!
4.5/5 Stars.
I can't believe this series is over. So bittersweet. My heart hurts that I won't get a new Illuminae files installment, but the ride has been so much fun. I cried. More than once. My heart was shred. I was shook.
I fell so in love with all of these characters. Isaac Grant is honestly such a gem and I adore that man. Papa Grant <3 I felt like the ending was a bit rushed, and that the war ended rather abruptly. However, I still loved the series and this was a satisfying ending for me. The friendship between the core group was such goals, and I loved how they created their own little family in the aftermath of losing so many that they loved.
Obsidio was an emotional roller coast and I loved every minute of it.
You know when they do That one thing to your favourite characters !!!
My heart still isnt over this book
HOLY SH*T this was so good. I was clutching my heart throughout the whole 619 pages because the action never let up. A lot of threads left hanging from the first two books are finally woven together as the plot twists and turns towards the extremely satisfying conclusion.Of course we're in this at least partly for the romance, aren't we? I was underwhelmed by Nick and Hanna from [b:Gemina 29236299 Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) Amie Kaufman https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1480097137s/29236299.jpg 44560442] as a couple, but their relationship develops further in this book and becomes much more interesting. Kady and Ezra from [b:Illuminae 23395680 Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) Amie Kaufman https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1443433956s/23395680.jpg 26653661]are as adorable as ever (they'd both probably kick my butt for using that adjective). The 3rd couple, Rhys and Asha, suffer a bit from having to share the page count with the other couples, but they were worthy additions to the cast.Warning: people you care about will be killed. The authors aren't afraid to get gritty and graphic. But that's one of the factors that makes this series so strong - you really understand the stakes involved if the bad guys win. Aidan, the computer with a heart (maybe), continues to feature prominently, giving voice to some of the moral and ethical dilemmas posed by the heroes' choices. The bottom line is that this 50something year old reader loved this YA trilogy and I don't care who knows it.P.S. Obsidio reveals who has been writing the snarky transcriptions of the video feed and you will not be disappointed!
Have you noticed all the moments we live and all the miles we walk never seem to get us anywhere but dead?
So, that's the last one? I'm a little bit heartbroken here, as I don't want it to end. I'm already missing these characters so much. Well, when you live with them for thousands of deaths, you get somewhat attached to them.
The experience of reading Obsidio was a bit painful. At so many points of the story, I just needed a break. But the difficulty was that I still couldn't stop thinking about it, so there was literally nothing I could do besides read the $%$#ing book.
